Continue ReadingOne of the best pure point guards in the state, Gardner thrives in this type of up-tempo, free-style of basketball. He puts on a show with his creative passing and is always looking to get others involved first and foremost. A skilled ball-handler with excellent court vision, he puts his teammates in positions to score with ease, and he has really improved his shooting over the last 18-24 months, turning himself into a reliable 3-point threat as well. He’ll be a nice addition for whichever small school ends up getting him.
Highlights
Kuehl was a standout at this event last year as well, more for his shooting ability and playing without the ball in his hands. This year, he showed that he can handle the rock and get to the rim with ease as well. He was constantly looking to attack the rim and finish while also creating for others, getting into the paint, getting the defense to collapse, and finding an open shooter on the weakside. He’s a good shooter who moves well without the ball in his hands, but it was the shot creation that impressed on Saturday.
Serck is part of a talented 2025 class at Central Lyon and had an impressive performance on Saturday. He’s a solid combo guard who sees the floor really well and keeps the ball moving. He made some nice passes, threading the needle for layups for teammates and showed a smooth jumper from the mid-range, keeping the ball high on his release. In a day where many players stand around after passing it away, it was refreshing to see Serck cut hard after passing, which led to a few opportunities for him.
Highlights
A young 6-0 wing, Hills was most impressive with his work on the defensive end. He did a great job denying the ball when playing off-ball D and moving his feet well when defending on the ball. He competes on the glass and is in constant motion on the offensive end. He didn’t have a ton of opportunities on the offensive end, but he played hard and defended well.
Highlights
Boettcher stuffed the stat sheet as a junior for the Rebels, averaging 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.3 steals a game, and watching him on Saturday, it’s easy to see why. He’s a big, physical guard with a really good feel for the game. He didn’t force anything, looking to attack when the opportunity was there or get others involved when it wasn’t. He has a physical frame that he uses to power through contact and he showed a smooth stroke from the arc. He impressed on the defensive end, staying in front of a few very highly regarded guards.
An off-ball guard who moves really well without the ball in his hands, finding spaces in the defense to get his shot off, Chiodo is a flamethrower who can get scorching hot from deep. He shot 41% from behind the arc as a bench player for the Thunder last year and looks ready to step into a bigger role as a senior.
A 6-1 wing with some length, Schoenauer did a good job moving without the ball in his hands, using screens to find spaces in the defense. He has the ability to finish through contact, attacking the rim hard when the defense closed out hard. Playing at Johnston, you know that he’s going to defend and play the game the right way.
Highlights
Severson is a smart, efficient combo guard who showed that he can create for himself and for others. He has good length that he uses to get into passing lanes and turn defense into offense, and he has a smooth jumper from the mid-range. A lanky perimeter threat with versatility on both ends of the floor, Severson looks primed to have a huge senior year for the Tigers.
Highlights
A talented 6-4 wing who can play with the ball in his hands and create for others, King is coming off a solid summer with Pure Prep in which he showed that he can get others involved or score from all three levels. He’s a good ball-handler who sees the floor extremely well.
