Downs will be a part of a lot of very good basketball over the next 4 years. He showed strength and toughness that allowed him to successfully defend a variety of players. Downs showed that he has 3 point range on his jumper as well. He’s going to be a staple of a strong young Coldwater program.
I had a tough time not putting Farr in the top 15 article, so I have to give him his due here. He had a top 15 type of day. Farr was comfortable working off a screen. The best part of his game was his confident attacking style. He went straight through the defense and to the rim where he could finish creatively. When he connects on his jumper, it’s game over.
Johnson showed off a really solid all around perimeter game at the Freshman Showcase. Defensively, he was able to utilize his quick hands to create turnovers. Offensively, he proved to be a multi level scorer with 3 point range on his jumper. Johnson was solid in transition using the bounce pass to feed teammates for fast break buckets.
Thomas II took ownership of the paint on Sunday. He was strong and physical and took offense when opponents tried to move him. Thomas II was all over the offensive glass where he powered up put back attempt after put back attempt. He was consistently able to get the ball up and in through contact.
Taylor is a name that you’ll hear again for sure over the next 4 years. He’s a steady ball handler that makes good decisions with where to go with it. Taylor gave a glimpse of his 3 point range at the event. The best part of his day on Sunday was probably his passing. He consistently put the ball where he wanted it and when he wanted it to be there.
Bowden was a high energy player that filled whatever role his team needed him to play. He proved to be a versatile defender that could defend all over the court. Bowden rebounded much bigger than his height by going up high after the ball. I really liked his understanding of transition basketball and his willingness to hustle and trail the break for high percentage buckets.
Highlights
Arnold definitely drew eyes towards his court at the Freshman Showcase. He looked like a good old fashioned battling post player. The kind of player that every coach wants on their roster because they know he won’t get outmuscled. Arnold showed that he could play with his back to the basket as well as extend possessions on the offensive glass.
Lowe showed everyone in attendance that he has a very bright future in the game of basketball. It was the little things that ultimately win games that impressed me the most with his play. Lowe talked on defense and made sure that he and his teammates were on the same page. His passing was superb. Lowe put zip on his passes and could hit a cutter in stride.
