Cardinal O’Hara
Wednesday, I went out to see the Lions as they prepare for the upcoming season. I watched them go through drills and work 3 on 3 in half court. This might be their most talented team in recent memory and they’ll have a chance to catch some people slipping with how well they play.
2023
Josh Coulanges Josh Coulanges 5'9" | PG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA (6’1 G): Josh has quietly gotten better every outing since his sophomore season. Now he’s their leader on and off the court, running the show at PG.
Zuri Harris (6’0 G): Harris steps into a starting role this year. He’ll add a mix of defense and floor spacing.
Izaiah Pasha Izaiah Pasha 6'4" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA (6’5 ‘G): After a breakout yet underrated junior season in the PCL, Pasha will be one of the premiere players in the area. And he’ll be even more efficient as he works off-ball.
2024
Aasim Burton Aasim Burton 6'3" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA (6’2 ‘24): “Flash” can create his own shot off-the-dribble. His Catholic league debut will be worth watching.
Pearse McGuinn Pearse McGuinn 6'8" | PF Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA (6’7 ‘24): McGuinn will hold it down in the middle on defense, but it’s the offense that’s intriguing. He has really good touch from deep and around the rim.
‘23 W Christian Cervello and ‘24 F Noah McIntosh will be big contributors for O’Hara too.
Imhotep
My trip to Imhotep on Thursday was well worth it. The way everyone got after it in their 5-on-5 runs, from rookies to the vets, showed why they’re one of the best public school programs nationally. With a couple seniors committed to D1 programs, they’ve got some other guys who are still under the radar.
Guards
Rahmir Barno Rahmir Barno 5'10" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #223 Nation PA (6’0 ‘23): Florida Gulf Coast is getting a good one. With speed and finishing craft for days, Barno’s shot is coming along well.
Malcolm Muhammad Malcolm Muhammad 6'0" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA (6’1 ‘23): Muhammad should see a big jump in minutes this year. He’s an energetic defender who can handle some.
Ahmad Nowell Ahmad Nowell 6'0" | PG Imhotep Charter | 2024 State #36 Nation PA (6’1 ‘24): Nowell is such a versatile piece for the Panthers. His ability to be a tough shotmaker one game, then a playmaker the next game is invaluable.
Wings
Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA (6’8 ‘23): Not much needs to be said about a player ranked top 3 in the nation. Regardless of how Justin is used in their matchups, his defensive playmaking will be constant.
Baasil Saunders Baasil Saunders 6'4" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA (6’4 ‘23): Since coming over to Tep in June, Saunders has made the transition to an off-ball wing and it’s paying off. He’s developing the jumper to pair with the athleticism.
Yahmir Satterfield (6’2 ‘23): Satterfield is one of their stronger perimeter defenders. He can take on bigger guards or smaller wings at the point of attack and space the floor offensively.
Bigs
Ma’Kye Taylor Ma’Kye Taylor 6'7" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA (6’7 ‘24): Taylor’s ability to “guard up” continues to impress. What he lacks in size he makes up for in leverage and strength. The 3 ball from him is real too.
Jeremiah White Jeremiah White 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA (6’6 ‘24): White’s energy on the glass and in transition is the key to his game. He’ll be able to contribute on offense without any plays called for him.
2026
Tep has no shortage of experienced upperclassmen, but they have a trio of freshmen to keep an eye out for. RJ Smith (5’7 G) could be part of the regular rotation, while Malik Myatt (6’3 W) and Zaahir Gray (6’4 W) might get spot duty in 2022-23.
