Drew Britson Drew Britson 6'1" | SG Garner-Hayfield-Ventura | 2023 State IA | 6’1 SG | GHV 2023
I ended up getting to see Britson play twice. I was assigned to watch his team play in game 4 but also got to watch him a little in game 3. Both games he was a bit of a quiet scorer but game 4 it seemed he couldn’t miss a shot. Early on got some layups off of cuts, including a nice up and under and a right slot cut that had the defender on his right hip so he finished left side with ease. Showed he could shoot the three a bit as well. One thing that really stuck out about his game was his shot selection. Like I said in game 4 I’m not sure he missed a shot. He takes high percentage shots and shots he knows he can hit. If his look isn’t open he has no problem distributing it to a teammate.
Luke Winkel Luke Winkel 6'1" | PG Ankeny Centennial | 2024 State IA | 6’0 PG | Ankeny Centennial 2024 (pictured)
Winkel is another guy from a seemingly solid team that played phenomenal in game 4. Kicked off the game with two great slashes to the basket. Baseline drive into a spin move topped off with a weak hand finish and then shortly after drove right to basket and finished a high pickup strong hand layup, through some contact. He as well knocked down the open three. He’s got a solid handle, not one to dance with his defender but he can break you off and get by you. IQ was displayed when he drove to basket, landed on two as a big was helping over, pump faked and finished through the defender. Had a handful of on-ball steals and got his hands in passing lanes.
Matthew Noll Matthew Noll 6'7" | PF Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA | 6’7 W | Bishop Heelan 2024
Noll is a name I’m sure the state of Iowa will be hearing a lot about. 6’7 point forward archetype. Brought the ball up for his team when I watched and demonstrated some playmaking abilities in game 6. He’s an able ball handler that can bully you on the drive, land on two and finish like a big, or just simply create for himself. He’s got size and length and he’s a very capable shooter especially from deep. Two assists that really stuck out was a hammer throw for an open triple and a pocket pass he had that normally a 6’7 player would be receiving. He can rebound and start the break for your team, or leak out in transition for easy dunks. Bright future for Noll.
Carter Sievers Carter Sievers 6'1" | PG Newell Fonda | 2023 State IA | 6’1 SG | Newell-Fonda 2023
Sievers is a athletic, lightning quick guard. Executed a float into a simple crossover then used his burst of his speed to easily blow by his man and finish at the rim. Confident shooter, he wasn’t able to connect early on but a pull up transition three changed that late in first half. Gets the ball into his shooting pocket quick and can hit the mid range pull. He runs the floor well that gave him some easy layups on the break. I saw some great cuts out of him off ball. On the defensive end he provided some solid on-ball pressure and was there to help on drives.
Dominic Rhoden | 6’0 PG | United Township 2024
Rhoden was one of my personal favorites I watched at the expo. Kid is a competitor and an all around player. You can tell he takes pride in his defense as he provided some hard on-ball defense. Multiple steals in the games I watched and a couple blocks as well. Offensively he is polished as well. He does a great job of creating shot opportunities off the bounce. Three level threat but shot it well from deep and was consistently getting to the rim. Plays off two down low against bigs. Shifty handle had him breaking off defenders all afternoon. One play that stuck with me about his game was how he almost converted this turnaround fadeaway, didn’t drop but tried it again two more times but dumped it off instead for easy assists to teammates. Definitely one of the more do it all players I saw at the showcase.
