Continue ReadingThe Independent School League of the NEPSAC is teeming with high-level basketball talent. With programs such as Rivers School and St. Sebastian’s leading the way, there are tons of basketball players in the ISL worth monitoring. Here are some of the few players that you should be paying attention to.
Trevor Mullin Trevor Mullin 6'0" | PG St. Sebastian's School (MA) | 2023 State NLG 6’0″ St. Sebastian’s School
Mullin is a pure scorer that’s found ways to score in a variety of events and competitions. The Yale-bound prospect is a creative playmaker that’s going to find ways to get opportunities for either himself or his teammates. Mullin is okay with taking on challenging offensive responsibilities, as he’s capable of dribbling through full-court ball pressure. He can take on physical, bump-and-push defensive opponents too. He’s got great length considering he’s got a 6’0″ frame, and this length makes him tough to stop when driving to the basket and finishing. Mullin is going to put on a show in the ISL during the 2022-23 season thanks to his elite scoring and passing ability.
Jayden Ndjigue Jayden Ndjigue 6'4" | CG Rivers School | 2023 State NLG 6’3″ Rivers School
A talented athlete, Ndjigue is someone that’s going to have a big year in the ISL playing for Rivers School. Committed to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and playing for the AAU squad Mass Rivals, Ndjigue showed he’s capable of playing against high-level basketball competition. And, that’s exactly what the ISL has to offer. He’s an excellent defender, and he’s going to rack up a lot of defensive statistics this season due to his activity, length, and pure athleticism on that end of the floor. Like Mullin, he finds ways to score and distribute at the same time. He’s an elite all-around prospect that figures to have another stellar season.
Gavin Carter Gavin Carter 6'0" | PG Milton Academy (MA) | 2023 State NLG 6’0″ Milton Academy
Carter is a major, major contributor for Milton Academy. As the point guard of the team, he’s asked to do a lot. But, he’ll do it. And, he’ll do it well. Carter is an excellent off-the-court leader. He’s vocal. He enjoys playing with his teammates. On the court, Carter is an amazing playmaker and facilitator. He’s got great passing vision and he’s able to not only just find his teammates in space but hit them right in their shooting pocket for great opportunities. He’s truly a pinpoint passer. Carter’s effective in the pick-and-roll, too. He’ll be one of the ISL’s premier passers this season.
NeJohn Fortes NeJohn Fortes 6'7" | SF ST Georges | 2023 NLG 6’7″ St. George’s School
Fortes is a 6’7″ wing that can do it all, offensively and defensively. He can knockdown 3-point shots. He can finish through and around contact because of his length and athleticism. He can act as an undersized rim protector and shot blocker. He’s an all-around player that’s going to be one of the more versatile players in the ISL this season. Playing for The House We Built in the AAU circuit this summer, he’s started to flash some off-the-dribble creation stuff and he’s learning to score off the bounce. I’m excited to see how those skills develop and translate this season with St. George’s School.
Flynt Whitworth Flynt Whitworth 6'3" | CG Tabor Academy (MA) | 2023 State NLG 6’3″ Tabor Academy
Whitworth has seen his stock continue to rise over the course of a year, and I expect the emerging 3-level scorer to continue progressing in the right direction. Whitworth really is a 3-level scorer, as he can shoot it from outside and get into the teeth of the defense. He has also an underrated mid-range game that’s coming along nicely. Along with the scoring ability, Whitworth has an extremely tight handle that makes him effective in the pick-and-roll and as a slashing point guard. He can find his teammates under pressure, and is just an offensive powerhouse for the ISL.
