The Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 was one of the largest and most talented showcases in the country this fall. There were GameChangers all over the gym. For this version of GameChangers, I’m going to give you my top 15 performers from Sunday’s showcase. They will be in random order and not ranked 1-15. Keep in mind that with hundreds of players in attendance, these are just my observations and not necessarily all inclusive.
Regnerus was easily one of the top players in the gym. He did a great job utilizing his length throughout the day. He rebounded high and he finished with force as well as toucb.
Highlights
McLavish continues to prove that height doesn’t mean everything in the game of basketball. He consistently creates space for his jumper and showed his range this weekend.
Highlights
Boggerty has been on a special run of late and that continued this weekend. Boggerty has a knack for making plays with the ball. Whether or not he initiates the offense, it can and should end with him.
Highlights
Marshall showed that he might just be at the tip of the iceberg in his recruitment. He looked so smooth and effort free in his movement on Saturday. Marshall showed that he can shoot from 3 as well as finish above the rim.
Risdon had a day at the Top 250. When I was watching it felt like he grabbed every single rebound the was near him. He used his strength and boxed out effectively to establish position under the rim.
Highlights
Talk about a big summer and fall, this young man has had one. Following an elite performance at the David Barns Showcase, he did it again at the Top 250. Nadeau can score in so many different ways, from being a sniper from deep to athletic finishes at the rim.
Highlights
Tomassi was one of the biggest surprises of the day. He blew up this weekend. He played with so much poise and control. Tomassi played off 2 feet, read the defense, and made plays from there. He was big on D as well, getting in his opponents face and forcing mistakes.
Kampen made it easy to see what the buzz has been about. He’s a smooth athlete that can change speed and direction. Kampen almost hid the ball when he handled, making the defender guess what was next.
Highlights
This young man is a prospect that is full of upside. He has super strong legs that help him get off the ground in a hurry. Brock plays with intensity and desire and can finish at the rim with nastiness.
Alderink has absolute elite talent and upside. His length and athleticism are top notch and he can extend the floor as well as finish with power. Alderink has tremendous control when the ball is in his hands and his shot is starting to take that stereotypical pretty lefty form.
Highlights
Shooters shoot, and Donny Yeager can do and should do just that. He hit about 5 triples in a game and I barely noticed. Me and a coach joked that we almost expect it at this point.
Highlights
I was really impressed with what I saw from Hardy on Saturday. I knew he was a solid rebounder that could get buckets, but I didn’t realize how athletic and vertical he could be.
I asked a coach at the Top 250 what they thought of Washburn’s game. They responded by saying that it’s hard to stop someone that’s too big and too strong. Enough said.
Highlights
Karel has something special in my opinion. We look at him as a 4 or as a post player because of his wing span and height, but that athleticism allows him to almost be positionless. Karel has soft hands and controls the ball in the air.
