The Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase was arguably the largest and most talented freshman showcase in the country this fall. There were GameChangers all over the gym. For this version of GameChangers, I’m going to give you my top 15 performers from Sunday’s showcase. They will be in alphabetical order and not ranked 1-15.
Charter was impressive with his basketball IQ and his ability to see open teammates and get them the ball. He has a chance to be one of the best passers in the state by the time it’s all said and done.
Highlights
Eklund was so steady all day long. He was a well rounded player that finished at the rim and defended all over the floor.
Frantz’ day was cut short with an injury, but he left his mark early at the event. He’s the type of player that other players want on their team. Frantz creates space for himself and his teammates and delivers the ball with precision.
Hakki is a name that everyone should become very familiar with. He’s a physically tough kid in addition to being athletically gifted. Hakki simply makes winning plays.
Highlights
Freshman that stand at 6-7, have ball skills, and can shoot with range are a rare find. Well, we found one at the Freshman Showcase. James can just simply do things that 99.9% of players his age and height can’t do.
Highlights
Lovejoy was terrifically explosive at the Freshman Showcase. He could make plays off the bounce with his handles and quickness and was a sniper with his jumper, proving to be a threat from anywhere on the floor.
Mercer II was a polished perimeter player. He wasn’t just a shooter, as he drove the lane and dished off to scorers as well as finished in a variety of ways such as spinning the ball off the backboard.
Murray turned heads at the Freshman Showcase. His speed on the court, both with and without the ball, was second to none. He pushed the pace and finished at the rim with creativity.
Pleyer showed a ton of versatility. On a small but fast team, he needed to defend big and hit the glass, and he did just that. Pleyer was still able to push the pace and score in transition.
Highlights
Price was a really slick freshman. He was sneaky with his finishes and he was never stopped when attacking the rim. Price was a creative finisher that was tough to defend.
Highlights
Ribel is another young man that I’ve heard a lot of talk about his ability to shoot, but showed so much more today. He showed an aggressive nature and an ability to straight line drive through the lane.
In a really impressive freshman class, Ryans has a chance to lead the way. He’s a strong kid that has a peautiful feel for the game. Ryans doesn’t have to force the issue to affect a game. He does a great job letting it come to him, and taking over when it does,
Summerville has that it factor to his game. His elite handles allow him to trip up his defender and get into his top notch jumper. Summerville looked confident with his jumper from the volleyball lines.
Watkins was incredibly athletic and active around the rim. His strength and first step gave him a huge advantage when taking the ball to the rim off the bounce. Watkins could power his way to the rim and shrug off contact.
Highlights
Wilson was FAST with the ball in his hands. He picked steam so quickly that it consistently put his defenders on his hip. Wilson had a fast first step and finished athletically at the rim.
