In this piece we go in-depth on the standout performers from the class of 2023 games, which include the 2023 “Creme” game, both sessions of the 2023 games and any carryovers into the “Creme de la Creme” game.
Kristian Gonzalez, Mater Dei Catholic – Gonzales is a strong-framed and explosive two-guard whose combination of strength and athleticism made him a guy who excelled when slashing to the rim and finishing through or above contact. The rising senior is also a consistent perimeter shooting threat off the catch and off the bounce.
Mikey Williams Mikey Williams 6'3" | CG San Ysidro | 2023 State #12 Nation CA-S , San Ysidro – Williams didn’t have his most efficient or productive performance, but the highly-touted guard showed up in crunch time. The 6-foot-3 senior scored seven points in the final 30 seconds, including a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to seal the victory for his team. Anyone reading this has heard of or seen the talents of Williams, who is a gifted scorer and shot-maker.
Noah Marte Noah Marte 6'1" | SG San Diego | 2023 State CA-S , San Diego – Marte flashed his knockdown shooting ability in his 2023 game. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard has deep and consistent range from multiple spots of the floor and did a nice job of setting up and coming off of screens to create space from his defender.
Shea Fitzgerald Shea Fitzgerald 6'1" | PG Cathedral Catholic | 2023 State CA-S , Cathedral Catholic – Fitzgerald seems to never get out of his character of the consummate floor general, even in a showcase setting. The 6-foot-2 point guard operated with great pace in transition and half-court settings. On the break, Fitzgerald probed the lane and recognized when he could get his own look at the rim and when to dish to an open teammate. In half-court situations, the senior kept defenses honest with his catch-and-shoot ability from deep and willingness to move the basketball.
Thomas Metcalf Thomas Metcalf 6'4" | SF Mission Bay | 2023 State CA-S , Mission Bay – Metcalf was the type of player who, despite not being a primary ball handler or scorer, found a way to put his stamp on the game with energy, hustle and physicality. The 6-foot-4 forward did damage on the offensive and defensive boards, ran the middle of the floor hard looking for transition opportunities, guarded multiple positions and was a willing screener and roller.
Titus Davis Titus Davis 6'0" | PG Murrieta Valley | 2023 State CA-S , Rancho Christian – Davis put on a shooting display during his game. The 6-foot-1 senior is an instinctual scoring guard whose deadeye three-point shooting touch forces the defense to extend out to him no matter where he is on the floor. Davis hits off the catch, off the bounce in ball screen action, and does so with “volleyball line” like range.
