October 1st is right around the corner and that means the high school basketball season is almost here! While October will bring plenty of preseason preview content throughout the site, September is about the individuals after the summer has wrapped up. Earlier this month, we started our ranking updates with the 2025 class. We followed that up with the 2024 class. This week, we’re putting a spotlight on the 2023 rankings with the Top 75 seniors in the state. In case you missed it, you can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. In this post, we put a spotlight on the top ten prospects in the state.
Holding on to the top spot in the recent ranking update is Del City center Brandon Garrison Brandon Garrison 6’8″ | C Evans | 2023 State #33 Nation OK , who has climbed up several national rankings to becoming one of the elite big men in the class. Garrison has always shown signs of being a dominant force in the paint but over the last twelve months, he’s developed more of that “killer” mentality and he knows just how dominant he can be on both sides of the ball and has played like it. He enjoyed an outstanding junior season and a better offseason, competing at the national level. Garrison leads a Del City team that is the heavy favorite to capture the Class 5A state championship coming into this season. We’re looking forward to seeing what other areas of his game he’s fine-tuned over the last few months.
On Tuesday, Bixby superstar Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6’4″ | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK announced his commitment to Notre Dame, picking the Irish over Davidson and Nebraska. The one-time OSU commit reopened his recruitment and ultimately picked Notre Dame. Once again, Friedrichsen finds himself near the top of the rankings in the 2023 class as he’s been arguably the best scorer in Oklahoma over the last two seasons. He’ll definitely come into this season as one of the top scorers in the state and we’re interested to see how that translates to on-court success. Friedrichsen will also have plenty of help around him in younger players that are on the rise. But when it comes down to it, Friedrichsen is a prospect who can go off for 30 or 40 points on any given night and you have to be ready for him.

While the first two prospects within the top ten have been considered top guys in this class for a few years now, it took a little time for Broken Arrow forward Connor Dow Connor Dow 6’6″ | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK . However, you could start to see flashes of it towards the end of last summer and he used that momentum to have an excellent junior season and an even better spring and summer while playing for Team Griffin. Dow became one of the top prospects in the state and recently joined Garrison by committing to Oklahoma State. Dow is one of the players that we’re looking forward to seeing the most this year during the high school season. Last year, he took more of a sidekick role to guard Anthony Allen. With Allen graduated, the Tigers become Dow’s team and it’s his chance to become an absolute superstar in the Tulsa area.
The second Del City Eagle within the top four of the 2023 rankings is forward Terry McMorris Terry McMorris 6’5″ | SF Douglass | 2023 State OK . It doesn’t take long while watching McMorris on the floor to know that he’s truly one of the more special athletes in this 2023 class. He just looks the part and his game has continued to evolve over the last few seasons. McMorris is a ball-stopping player on the defensive side of the ball as he has the ability to give smaller guards problems. He’s one of the better perimeter defenders in this class. His recruitment is somewhat puzzling because more schools should be flocking to Del City to go after a prospect who’s ceiling is incredibly high moving forward. While Dow might be one spot ahead of McMorris in this update, you can make the argument that McMorris has a higher ceiling at the next level.
Similar to Connor Dow Connor Dow 6’6″ | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK , we’re really looking forward to seeing Memorial’s Jarreth Ingram Jarreth Ingram 6’4″ | SF Noah | 2023 State OK as he steps into a new role with the defending 5A state champion Chargers. Last season, the Chargers had a very deep senior class but Ingram and fellow 2023 prospect Seth Pratt Seth Pratt 6’3″ | SG Memorial | 2023 State OK were big parts of the lineup throughout the year. But this season, we expect Ingram’s numbers and production to absolutely explode. Last season, he started off by coming off the bench and providing pure athleticism to the Memorial lineup. This year, Ingram will play a new role by still being arguably the best athlete on the floor almost every single night. But he’ll also be asked to be more than just a high-flyer. While Del City might be the favorite, Ingram and the Chargers aren’t going to go down without a fight.

Just outside of cracking the top five is Westmoore guard Evan Barber Evan Barber 6’1″ | CG Westmoore | 2023 State OK . In our last update in June, we put Barber in the top ten and corrected a mistake made back in January. And Barber has once again made moves up the rankings this time around. There are few prospects in the 2023 class who had better performances than Barber throughout the spring and summer, while playing for ROGUE in various tournaments all across the region. Not only was Barber usually always one of the top performers in tournaments he played in, he also brought complete consistency. You knew what you were going to get every time you saw him play and he would continue to evolve his game, while not losing who he truly is, which is one of the best shooters in the state, regardless of class.

One player that we’re going to have to wait before we can see him this winter is Heritage Hall guard Sebastian Perry Sebastian Perry 6’1″ | PG Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK . The senior guard will miss roughly the first half of the season while recovering from an injury. Prior to the injury, Perry was enjoying a fantastic spring and summer as he impressed several of our writers at various tournaments and in team camp settings back in June. Perry has been a point guard first but this summer, he was starting to work off the ball more, which certainly helps him get his shot a little easier, and he’s one of the better scorers within this top ten. Perry had a lot of momentum and we’re looking forward to seeing him attempt to pick it up when he does return to the floor. The Chargers will once again be a team to watch this year.
While we’re going to have to wait to see Perry this winter, we might be waiting longer to see Mustang guard Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6’3″ | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK . In fact, this might be the last time Johnson is listed as a basketball prospect. For the last three years, Johnson has been the top dual-sport prospect in the state, holding offers from programs for both basketball and football. Last month, Johnson committed to OU for football and could enroll early to participate in spring drills with the Sooners. If that ends up happening, that will end Johnson’s high school basketball career, which has been a fun one to watch. We’ve seen a few Oklahomans excel in both sports at the next level but that simply doesn’t happen anymore. At a program like OU, you end up having to make a choice between the gridiron or the hardwood.
One of the top performers that we saw at local Prep Hoops Circuit events throughout the spring and summer was Carl Albert guard Jordan England Jordan England 6’2″ | CG Carl Albert | 2023 State OK . The Carl Albert product started elevating his game during his junior season and he continued that improvement throughout the spring and summer. During the first few times I watched England, the first thing that jumped out to me was his defensive abilities. Then as we got to watch him more, the offensive moves within his game started standing out and England became a strong guard prospect within the state’s 2023 class. England had an outstanding offseason and he’s hoping to take that momentum into this season with the Titans. England is definitely one of the more consistent prospects within the top ten.
Our final prospect within the top ten is another Memorial Charger as guard Seth Pratt Seth Pratt 6’3″ | SG Memorial | 2023 State OK joins Jarreth Ingram Jarreth Ingram 6’4″ | SF Noah | 2023 State OK in the top ten. And similar to Ingram, we’re really looking forward to seeing what Pratt’s role will be within the Memorial offense this season. As defending champs, all eyes will be on the Chargers as the expectations will remain the same for them to contend for the gold ball. Pratt has been primarily known as a shooter for the last two seasons but this year, Pratt will have to have more of a role within the offense now that point guard Tyreese Frierson has graduated. Pratt has been one of the top shooters over the last few years but adding other elements to his game will be critical in order for the Chargers to defend their title and contend with Del City this winter.
