PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Alex Sherwood Alex Sherwood 6'4" | SF Xavier | 2023 State WI
His AAU teammate, Heck, may give him a run for his money, but Sherwood is the leading returning scorer in the Bay Conference. Last season, the 6-foot-7 versatile sniper put up 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Holding a handful of Divison 2 scholarship offers, Sherwood has also made some noticeable gains with his game over the summer, developing into a big mismatch problem as he’s now able to score with his back to the basket and bring the ball up the floor.
BREAKOUT PLAYER: Riley Yonker Riley Yonker 6'2" | SG Menasha | 2023 State WI
Yonker is coming off a breakout summer and that should continue for a Menasha squad that has to replace its top two scorers from last season, including a ball-dominant guard. The 6-foot-1 senior is a do-it-all type prospect that doesn’t need to score to make an impact. Behind a pair of double-digit scorers, Yonker posted 9.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and 1.1 spg. He also connected on 42 triples.
SURPRISE PLAYER: Tru Cornell
Cornell isn’t listed on our preseason All-Conference teams, which might be a mistake. Seymour loses its leading scorer from last season and doesn’t return a whole lot of firepower. Cornell had a promising sophomore campaign, averaging 7.0 ppg from the point guard spot. He also dished out 2.5 assists per contest. Cornell had an 18-point performance near the end of the season and played well in a playoff loss to a very good Oshkosh North squad, which was a low scoring fight.
