These guys are on the pathway to accomplishing great things on and off of the court. Let’s continue our in-depth look at Cedar Run District.
Riley is a tough, crafty finisher around the basket, the Freedom-Woodbridge point guard plays with elite body control in General. when attacking the rim he has the hang time to wait in the air while defenders practically fly by him before laying the ball in. Riley is a pure bucket, putting up 23.3 ppg in the previous season, he can score at all 3 levels. He is a great 3-point shooter who can knock down threes within the flow of the offense as well as off the dribble. Riley has a lightning-quick first step and the ability to stop on the dime and rise for jumpers. He has a tight, crafty dribble when operating on the perimeter that allows him to get into the paint and these deadly pull-up jumpers. When Riley is on ball he is a great decision maker. He always sees up court in transition situations and from frequent paint touches he often creates open shots for teammates in the low post and in corners and never fails to deliver.
Woodward, out of John Champe in Loudoun County, Virginia is an elite shooting wing with great positional size and he knows how to put it to use when shooting over the top of closeouts. He is adept at using an effective pump fake and/or side step to punish the reckless closeouts on the perimeter and create for himself. He has the height and length to elevate above the majority of defenders and knock down heavily contested shots. The 6’5 sharpshooter always has his hands up and is ready to knock down catch and shoot threes. Woodward is also a great playmaker at his size. He can be a great facilitator from the post and always finds the open man if the help defense is helping too much when he attacks.

The 6’2 guard out of Battlefield high school is a great guy to have, on court as well as off the court. Hammad is a high-level finisher around the basket as he puts tons of pressure on the rim for opposing defenses with strength and certain craft to free up shots around the basket that is difficult to contain. He has an elite euro step he likes to use as well as a nice spin move to get to the rim. Hammad’s ability to change speeds and maintain balance and control after taking contact when getting downhill will take him far in this game. Hammad can knock down tough jumpers within the flow of the offense. Due to him being a threat from beyond the arc or being a paint-bully, he is great at sucking the defense in and finding open cutters and shooters. He plays with an extremely high motor on both ends of the floor, he reads the passing lanes at a high level and he is never afraid to step in front to take the charge.

Vick is a 6’6 elite versatile defender who plays with a high level of toughness and competitiveness. Vick uses his length and his ability to slide his feet while mirroring his opponent to contain drives at an elite level. He has good instincts on defense, rarely being fooled by pump fakes and navigating his blocks to perfection. Similar to his ability to navigate blocks without fouling, Vick is great at operating as the help defender and sliding over to stop drives promptly. His ability to contest driving layups and floaters while back peddling is a huge key to his defensive success and a rare feature at this age. On offense, he is great off the ball, particularly setting firm screens and getting out, rolling to the basket with quickness, when Vick gets going downhill there’s not much you can do to stop his 6’6 frame from getting to the rim. Vick is a tenacious rebounder who uses strength and athleticism to clean up missed shots followed by tough putbacks.

The Mobile big out of Osbourn high school possesses tools that most guys his size can only dream of. The 6’7 big man is a smooth 3-point shooter who can operate on the perimeter just as well as he does inside. Ahlers can take defenders from the perimeter to rim the rim with a quick first step and the strength to power through guys. Ahlers has an extremely advanced post game where operates with great footwork and the ability to shake players off his back or turn around and shoot over the top. He is a great playmaker out of the post as he never misses open shooters when the defense over-commits. He is very patient, never rushing shots, and likes getting the defense jumping with his use of fakes to create open shots. Ahlers is a high-level rebounder often snatching boards right off of the rim for put-back layups. Ahlers is a great prospect who will only continue to improve.
