However, when we have breaking prospect transfer news this big and an exclusive interview as well, then that player deserves his own “Transfer Watch” post.
In this special edition of the Transfer Watch series, we reveal that Archbishop Carroll superstar Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ has left Carroll, moved out of state, and enrolled at McEachern HS in Powder Springs, Georgia for the 2022-23 academic year.
In case you need a reminder of just how big this transfer news is, below is a look at Hipps’ recruiting profile…
Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ – 6’4″ / Junior / McEachern (GA) / NJ Scholars Elite / Combo Guard: In 2021-22 Hipps posted an extremely impressive sophomore campaign at Archbishop Carroll (19 ppg. & 40% on threes). Then during the 4A state tourney Hipps averaged 22 points per night and hit triples at a 47% clip. At states he recorded 31 points (4 threes) in a win over Berks Catholic as well as 31 points (6 threes) in a win against Athens Area. His post season honors included being named 1st Team 4A All-State and 2nd Team All-Philadelphia Catholic League. Hipps is a backcourt prospect who obviously can drain threes, but this versatile guard also excels at getting to the rim in transition or in the half-court. He is the No. 4 ranked player in our most recent Pennsylvania C/O 2024 rankings and holds multiple DI offers.
Exclusive Q&A with Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ :
Smith: Moses just confirm for me — you are currently living in Georgia and school has already started, correct?
Hipps: Yes, sir I am in Georgia now. And yes, school started last week, August 1st. My summer was very short, but I don’t mind. I like school so it is not that bad.
Smith: So how are you and how are things down in Georgia?
Hipps: Everything is good. It is definitely a big transition from Jersey to Georgia, but it has been smooth. I have enjoyed my time so far in Georgia. I really like Georgia a great deal.
Smith: What led to the move to Georgia?
Hipps: It was an all-around family move. It was good situation for my mom’s job as well as my dad’s. My dad works in the film and music industry and Atlanta is a hot spot for that type of work. My sister is going to college at Spellman which is in Atlanta as well. It was a perfect situation for my family.
Smith: Had this move been planned for some time or was it a surprise?
Hipps: It had been planned for a little bit but not over years or anything like that. It just happened to be the right time.
Smith: Why did you chose to attend McEachern High School?
Hipps: The McEachern head coach has known my dad for 20 years. So, it was a perfect situation where we could live right outside of Atlanta, and I could play for a school that has a rich basketball history and a coach that I am familiar with.
Smith: How have you been received by your new teammates?
Hipps: My McEachern teammates have been great. I really enjoy spending time with them. We are really close on and off the court. We have workouts every day, but we also hangout outside of school – go to football games or just chillin’. We are always around each other and have good relationships.
Smith: What style of basketball does McEachern play?
Hipps: We play fast. Everyone can shoot and handle the ball. We have a lot of skills. We are a really tall team with bigger guards. So, we want to get out and run. But we play together and play the right way. It’s not one on one type of stuff. We all know what we must do to play together and win. No one person is going to carry the load. Everyone has a role.
Smith: The Philadelphia Catholic League is considered one of the most competitive leagues in the country. What will you miss about playing for Carroll in the PCL?
Hipps: Of course, I am going to miss my Carroll teammates, Coach Bowe, and Coach Rich. Also, the student sections and the big atmosphere at games. The PCL atmosphere feels like every night is a dog fight and everyone is trying to reach that ultimate goal, which is playing at the Palestra. Those are the things I will miss the most.
Smith: What elements of your game are you working on during August?
Hipps: Definitely getting stronger and gaining weight. I lift every day and I am on a nutrition program. I also am trying to become more athletic. On the court I am working on being on the ball more. I am working to be a better secondary / primary ball handler so that I can become a true combo guard. Of course, I am always working on my ability to score the ball.
Smith: Can you update us on your list of college offers?
Hipps: I have offers from Rutgers, VCU, Temple, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Bryant, and Fairfield.
Thanks to Moses for his time and answers.
Best of luck in Georgia!!
