Carson Miles Carson Miles 6'0" | PG Georgetown | 2023 State OH , 5’11 PG Georgetown 2023: Miles is a small school sleeper who got onto our radars with some impressive tournament performances. We ended up checking him out at the Prep Hoops Grit Memorial Classic in Columbus where he was a standout. Miles is quick with the ball in his hands and can score efficiently from both the outside and when driving to the lane. Miles is from a part of the state that doesn’t usually get seen very often, but he shouldn’t slip through the cracks with small schools for very long. If you are looking for a point guard who’s productive on both ends and competes, Miles could be a player you want to check out this winter.
Grayson Steury Grayson Steury 5'11" | CG Ashland | 2023 State OH , 5’11 CG Ashland 2023: Steury and Jordan Edwards Jordan Edwards 6'3" | PG Olentangy Orange | 2023 State OH made a splash in the backcourt for Mid Ohio Pumas Price, a Prep Hoops Circuit standout squad in the Grit region. Steury is an elite shooter from the outside, capable of making you pay off the catch or bounce. Steury has been a sidekick to Luke Denbow the past couple seasons but will be tasked with more point guard and creation responsibilities as a senior, it’ll be interesting to see how efficient Steury can be when creating a higher percentage of his own looks. Steury should be on small college radars looking for a combo guard who can flat out stroke it from the outside.
Cooper Matthews Cooper Matthews 6'0" | CG Hamilton | 2023 State OH , 6’1 CG Hamilton 2023: Matthews is another Prep Hoops Circuit standout from this spring and summer with an R4L squad that had some signature wins. Matthews plays with a fire to his game and won’t back down from anybody. Matthews was inconsistent as an outside shooter, having some games with 3+ 3-pointers and others where he struggled. Matthews did attack the rack in every game I saw, with some sneaky bounce to help him finish in traffic. Matthews also showed some acrobatic finishes at the rim and was one of the leading scorers in the GMC as a Junior.
James Maholm James Maholm 6'0" | PG Dublin Scioto | 2023 State OH , 6’0 PG Dublin Scioto 2023: Maholm is a prospect who stood out at both the Mid Ohio Pumas and 270 Hoops prospect camps. Showing your ability as a guard to not only score but also get others involved and compete defensively was impressive at one off prospect camps where a lot of players just want to show off for themselves. While Maholm was sure to get shots up and show his scoring punch, he brought more than just scoring to the table and that got him a spot in the rankings. I’d like to see Maholm during his senior season in a more organized setting to get an even better feel on his talents.
Lucas Perusek Lucas Perusek 6'0" | PG Saint Edward | 2023 State OH , 6’0 PG Saint Edward 2023: It seems like Saint Edward never rebuilds, it always reloads, and players like Perusek have Saint Edward reloading for the 2022-23 season. At Midwest Live despite playing without Head Coach Eric Flannery who was with Team USA, Perusek stood out for a new look Eagles squad that has to replace key senior contributors. Perusek showed good feel for the game and a toughness that is required to play for the Eagles program. Perusek also knocked down open shots and seemed very comfortable being a leader of the team. Saint Edward always has players with college interest and once the winter comes, I’d expect a lot of small colleges to be watching their team this winter.
