Top 5 Point Guards in Tampa (Class of 2024)

Today, we will start with the top point guards to keep an eye on for the upcoming season in the junior class.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1055782' first='Lorenzo' last='Cason']- Victory Christian Academy/1Family (2024)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Cason had one of the best seasons in the state when it came to scoring, as he averaged 27.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season for the Storm. The 6-2 guard has a strong attack for the basket and is also one of the best rebounding guards in the state. Cason currently holds offers from Chattanooga, Jacksonville State, New Mexico State, Presbyterian, Stony Brook and VCU. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1055592' first='Daniel' last='MacGregor']- Clearwater Calvary Christian/Florida Rebels (2024)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Macgregor has outstanding court vision and is a very underrated passer and scorer. Macgregor also excels at getting his teammates involved especially early in games. Macgregor is coming off a season, where he averaged 19.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and five assists per game in 26 games played for the Warriors as a sophomore. During the live period he received his first offer from Stetson University and is also expressing interest from several mid-major D1 schools.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Matt Selmon- Sports Leadership &amp; Management Tampa/Florida PRO Basketball (2024)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Selmon had a phenomenal summer playing with Florida PRO Basketball, as well as helping lead USA Basketball win the 18U International Basketball Championship in Mexico. Selmon is a 6-1 quick and athletic guard and can attack his primary defenders and get to the basket with will. Selmon is a little inconsistent with his mid-range game. Selmon averaged 11.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in 24 games played last season for the Spartans.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1055770' first='Willie' last='Sheppard']- Oldsmar Christian/Team Breakdown (2024)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5-11 guard is a hard-nose defender which has been one of the underrated skills he can provide, because of his size. Not only does Sheppard have great on-the-ball defending skills, but he can also provide quickness and toughness. Sheppard spent the latest live period playing for Team Breakdown in the grassroots circuit. Last season for the Eagles, Sheppard shot 35 percent from 3-point distance.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1055777' first='Derek' last='Delgardo'] Jr.- Leto/G1 Sports (2024)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Delgardo averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season for the Falcons, helping lead them to a regional berth for the first time in over a decade. The 6-0 guard shot 42 percent from the field and 70 percent from the charity stripe last season. Delgardo was named 1st-Team All-Hillsborough County last season for the Falcons and is also a member of the Top 25 Players in Hillsborough County for the Class of 2024. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
