Team & Season Comments from coach Colton Kooima
“I really felt like our team improved drastically from the start of our season in the spring to the end of the summer. We had a group that really hadn’t played together much, so it took us some time to learn how to play together. By the end of the summer, we were playing our best basketball.“
“The highlights for our team was having the opportunity to travel across the country and play against competition that we don’t normally see. While at times we took our bumps and bruises, I firmly believe our players will benefit greatly during their high school seasons from playing this kind of competition.”

Q & A with coach Colton Kooima
PHD: What is your best memory from this AAU season?
Coach Kooima: “Just being able to spend weekends with our team and bond while we competed against high-level competition. Our guys worked extremely hard to compete every opportunity they had and it was a joy to coach.“
PHD: Who were a few of your hardest workers and what did they do to stick out?
Coach Kooima: “Tytan Tryon brought a consistent effort off the bench for us throughout the entire season. He guards the ball extremely well and is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team succeed.“
PHD: Can you talk about a few of your best defenders?
Coach Kooima: “ JT Rock JT Rock 7'1" | C Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 #37 Nation SD was a huge force for us in the paint. He protected the rim extremely well and grew in his ability to communicate ball screen coverages.“
“Tytan Tryon always came into the game and wanted to guard the other team’s best perimeter player. He is physical and can move very well laterally.“
PHD: Who was your best rebounder and why?
Coach Kooima: “ JT Rock JT Rock 7'1" | C Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 #37 Nation SD was huge for us on the glass. He improved throughout the summer in his ability to read the ball off the rim and pursue it aggressively.“
“We also had 3 perimeter players with good size that helped us rebound the basketball. Porter Ihnen Porter Ihnen 6'5" | CG Lennox | 2024 State #318 Nation SD , Jacoby Mehrman Jacoby Mehrman 6'4" | PG Harrisburg | 2024 State SD , and Jesse Van Kalsbeek Jesse Van Kalsbeek 6'6" | SF MOC-Floyd Valley | 2024 State IA are all 6’3” and above. Having that size in our backcourt helped us finish many possessions on the glass.“
PHD: Can you talk about your best shooter and what makes them so effective?
Coach Kooima: “ Braeden VanBockern Braeden VanBockern 6'3" | SG Harrisburg | 2024 State SD was a huge key for us off the bench in his ability to stretch the defense and knock down open shots. He helped us win a lot of games throughout the summer. He can make shots from different spots on the court, but he’s also effective when he’s on the move. We were able to run him off a lot of different actions to get him open looks.“
PHD: Who was your “go-to” player when you needed a big bucket?
Coach Kooima: “It really depended on the matchup. JT Rock JT Rock 7'1" | C Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 #37 Nation SD had a lot of big moments at the end of games.”
“ Porter Ihnen Porter Ihnen 6'5" | CG Lennox | 2024 State #318 Nation SD and Jacoby Mehrman Jacoby Mehrman 6'4" | PG Harrisburg | 2024 State SD were also huge keys toward the end of the game because they are physical guards who can get downhill and to the foul line when our team needed a basket.“
