Continue ReadingJay Boyd Jay Boyd 6’2″ | SG Hiram | 2023 State GA looked like his typical self on Thursday night, doing a little bit of everything and knocking down open jumpers at will. The senior guard will likely play a key leadership role for Hiram this year and has done so effectively during their time together in June and the fall. He’s a team first guy that will do whatever it takes and can go out and get a bucket when he needs too. This week, he was even working out of the high post and guarding opposing bigs down low.
Cannon Richards Cannon Richards 6’6″ | PF Kell | 2024 State GA is the kind of player that excels in his role and he did so on Thursday night, doing a lot of the dirty work for Kell. Richards brings tremendous effort whenever he’s on the floor and was able to impact the game at a high level. Richards is a scrappy rebounder and a quick jumper which allows him to get a lot of putbacks. When it’s all said and done, Richards could play a vital role for Kell towards the end of the season.
Simply put, there aren’t many things on the basketball court that Preston Parker Preston Parker 6’3″ | SG Sequoyah | 2023 State GA can’t do. That was on display Thursday night. The 6’6 guard was controlling most of the ball-handling duties, distributing the rock and handling the pressure well. Early on, Parker knocked down a couple of really pretty 3’s on the move. He also ran the offense well, setting up teammates and delivering a few sharp passes into the paint. Parker looks much improved from last year after a big spring/summer and could be in for a breakout season.
Landen Pitts Landen Pitts 6’4″ | SF Allatoona | 2023 State GA is a long, athletic guard that did a little bit of everything for Allatoona on Thursday night. Pitts is a capable ball-handler and looks comfortable both at the point and working off the ball. He sees the court well and had some beautiful cross-court passes throughout the night. On the defensive end is where Pitts is particularly great. In addition to some stifling on-ball defense, Pitts challenged several shots at and around the rim. The senior guard has tremendous upside and will be one to keep an eye on in his final season.
Jakaden Barkley
Jakaden Barkley
Jakaden Barkley is a quick, athletic guard that was effective creating offense and running the break on Thursday. He’s got a tight handle, really impressive court vision, and can pass it at a high level. Barkley’s tactical about the way he attacks defenses and sets up his teammates. Barkley plays well in the flow of the half-court offense but was at his best when he could get downhill in the open floor. Jakaden Barkley could certainly jump onto a lot of radars this season and attract some college interest.
