Continue ReadingRecently several of the 2023 prospects that we have been scouting and writing about for two years announced which program they will play for at the next level. So, we thought we would take a minute to acknowledge the dedication and skills that led to this life changing achievement for these ballers.
Below is a rundown of eleven 2023 prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) who recently committed to play college ball.
Xzayvier Brown Xzayvier Brown 6'1" | PG Roman Catholic | 2023 State #233 Nation PA – 6’2” / Roman Catholic / K-Low Elite / Point Guard: Committed to Saint Joe’s… The #8 ranked 2023 prospect in the state is the textbook definition of a floor general style of lead guard. Last season at Roman he posted 14 ppg.; 4.7; 6.2 apg.; and shot 43% on threes while leading RC to the 6A state championship. He was selected as a 1st Team All-PCL selection and was a PCL POY nominee.
Mark Butler Mark Butler 5'10" | PG William Penn Charter | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Penn Charter / Philly Pride National / Combo Guard: Committed to Lafayette… Butler was the 2021-22 Inter-Ac Player of the Year, averaging 14 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds per game. He is an elite ball handling guard who plays with pace, but rarely commits turnovers. Butler can get to the rim with ease and his jumper has range that extends out to the three-point line.
Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA – 6’7” / Imhotep Charter / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: Committed to Kentucky…The No.1 player in our Class of 2023 rankings and a Top 5 player nationally, Edwards is arguably the best “big guard” in the country. He scores the rock at all 3-levels, is a beast on the glass and plays suffocating defense. He is a transition phenom who loves finishing with authority. During the 2021-22 season he averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game while leading Imhotep to the 5A state title and being named PIAA 5A POY.
Anthony Finkley Anthony Finkley 6'6" | SF Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA – 6’6” / Roman Catholic / K-Low Elite / Wing: Committed to Saint Joe’s…One of the most unique prospects in the area, Finkley is an extremely versatile and athletic baller who excels in a hybrid point-forward role. He owns good handles, excellent court vision / passing skills and he can drain the 3-ball. On the interior, Finkley’s length and smooth footwork allow him to score from the blocks with either hand.
Thomas Haugh Thomas Haugh 6'9" | SF Perkiomen School | 2023 State #117 Nation PA – 6’9” / Perkiomen School / We R1 UAA / Wing: Committed to Florida…This “freak” athlete is 6’9” but possesses the handles of point guard and drains threes like a shooting guard. Plus, he can score on the interior and rebound (at both ends) like a power forward. Haugh’s (14 ppg., 9 rpg., 4 apg. & 2.7 bpg.), athleticism, speed and agility enable him to grab a rebound and go coast to coast. He also excels at finishing with authority.
Jackson Hicke Jackson Hicke 6'5" | SF Radnor | 2023 State PA – 6’4″ / Senior / Radnor / Prim3Tim3-PA / Shooting Guard: Committed to Princeton…One of the elite half-court shooting guards in the region took his game to the next level during the spring/summer circuit. In addition to deep three-point shooting and his ability to slash to the basket, Hicke (17 ppg. in 2021-22; 2nd Team PIAA 5A All-State) has become a transition finisher and a threat to blow past his man in isolation play. This summer Hicke notched a 38-point game at Philly HS Live with Radnor as well as multiple 30-point games for Prim3Tim3.
Matt Mayock Matt Mayock 6'4" | SG Westtown School | 2023 State PA – 6’4” / Westtown School / We R1 / Combo Guard: Committed to American University…Mayock is a high-level 3-point shooter (45% on threes in 2021-22) who is especially effective in pick-n-pop action and as a trail shooter. His improved ability to get buckets off dribble-drives made Mayock (10.9 ppg.) a more well-rounded scoring threat this past spring/summer. Mayock played a key role in Westtown winning the 2022 PAISSA state championship.
Ruben Rodriguez Ruben Rodriguez 6'2" | PG Reading | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Reading / Team Final EYBL & TF Red / Point Guard: Committed to Rider… This is an absolute steal by the Broncos and Head Coach Kevin Baggett. Rodriguez (19.4 ppg.; Berks Conference POY) is one of the most lethal scoring point guards in Pennsylvania. You may recall this winter he posted a school record 50-point game in only 3 quarters of play. Rodriguez kept that momentum rolling all spring / summer as he tore up the grassroots circuit with his electric skill set. This summer Rodriguez was also selected to Puerto Rico’s U18 national team.
Moustapha Sanoh Moustapha Sanoh 6'9" | PF Exec Education ACS | 2023 State PA – 6’10” / Executive Education ACS / Team Final Red / Center: Committed to Rider…Sanoh is another amazing “get” for Rider. Sanoh is a long and athletic prospect who is a plus player at both ends of the floor. On defense he is an intimidating shot blocker and force on the glass. At the offensive end, he owns a reliable mid-range game. However, Sanoh does the bulk of his damage by running rim to rim and then catching lobs or on second chance opportunities. Sanoh’s recruiting stock took off in late June after he dominated the interior for EEACS at Philly HS Live II. Included in those impressive runs for Sanoh was a 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 swats performance.
Horace Simmons Jr – 6’6” / LaSalle CHS / Philly Pride National / Wing: Committed to Drexel…In 2021-22 this extraordinarily gifted athlete was good for 14 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 39% from three. Those impressive stats landed him on 2nd Team All-PCL squad. Simmons can score at all three levels. He also excels on the defensive end where his length, speed and instincts make him a major plus player who picks pockets, causes deflections and blocks shots.
Bryan Simmons Bryan Simmons 5'10" | SF #175 Nation PA – 6’6” / Hillcrest Prep (AZ) / Team Durant / Wing: Committed to Saint Joe’s…Simmons is a transition bucket getter who is ranked among the Top 50 C/O 2023 prospects nationally. In 2021-22 he played for basketball juggernaut Hillcrest Prep and posted a stat line of 13 points, 8 rebounds and & 2 assists per game. Simmons is an elite athlete with length and a ridiculous vertical who can score from anywhere on the court. The highlight of the 2021-22 season for Simmons was a 28 point, 14 rebound, 4 steals and 5 blocks performance against the Park School.
