Trenton Marquez
https://twitter.com/TrentMarquez2rnMarquez led the state last year averaging 4.5 steals per game. His defensive instincts are top notch, knowing when to trap with his hands up, anticipating passes to jump the passing lane or just staying in front of the ball and reaching at the right time. Marquez quickly turns his defense into offense either attacking the rim or getting the ball ahead for transition baskets, which translated into him averaging 14.5 points and 3.3 assists per game as well. Heading into his senior year, Marquez’s thieving talent would be a steal for any college looking to press some offensive backcourts.
Johnny Vargas
Johnny Vargas
An exceptional athlete, Vargas is a scrappy guard who gets involved in every aspect of the game. To go along with his 4.2 steals per game, he averaged over 13 points, 3 assists and 8 rebounds his junior year. Vargas brings high energy and an aggressiveness that pushes his team on the court. Challenging guards off the dribble and jumping passing lanes is his specialty and with an improved shooting percentage, Vargas could be in for a huge senior year.
Ryker Evans
Ryker Evans
https://twitter.com/RykerEvans5rnEvans could be a bit of a hidden gem out in Elmwood, NE. He is a dual sport athlete (Basketball and Football) who impresses on both fields of play. Evans averaged 3.8 steals per game last year as a sophomore, chipping in 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds on top. He does a fantastic job getting his hands on entry passes and is sly in poking balls out of players hands with their back to him. Evans is aggressive with the ball in his hands and has a good leaping ability that helps him with defensive rebounding. Hi-Line could have a star on their hands as the offensive package develops.
Andrew Scott
Andrew Scott
Scott brings tons of hustle to the court for the Falcons. He uses his track speed to his advantage, harassing offensive players and creating turnovers. Earning some quality minutes on the court his junior year, Scott averaged 3.4 steals per game to go along with 8.6 point and 4.0 rebounds. He is a spark plug for his team and gets them more possession and transition baskets. The Falcons will use Scott’s thievery to add to their win column.
Sam Souerdyke
Sam Souerdyke
https://twitter.com/sam24souerdykernSouerdyke was in my last article for his high IQ and solid shooting stroke. He makes my report with his ability to attack passing lanes and active hands this time. Souerdyke averaged 3.0 steals per game as a freshman and could easily create points off those turnovers with his offensive capability. A player who plays hard and is impactful on both sides of the court should garner some major interest by the end of his sophomore season.
