The event featured some highly-rated prospects from the West, South, Midwest and East regions of the United States. Below are the top playmakers we saw in Saturday’s action.
Jeremy Fears Jeremy Fears 6'1" | PG Joliet West | 2023 State #31 Nation IL , Joliet West (IL)
Fears had ultimate control of the game while leading the Midwest to a big win over the East squad. The 6-foot-1 Michigan State-bound point guard fits the mold of your prototypical Spartans’ floor general. Fears plays with elite pace, a high basketball IQ, high level understanding of the strengths of his teammates and was extremely unselfish even in this showcase setting. Fears finished with 16 points and a Day 1 high of 10 assists.
Mookie Cook, Arizona Compass Prep
Highlights
Cook has all the tools you look for in an impact high-major guard/wing. The 6-foot-6 Oregon-commit has NBA-like athleticism with his explosiveness around the basket to go along with his ability to cover ground with limited steps or dribbles in transition. Cook, known as a highlight-reel athlete and scorer, dished out eight assists in addition to his 15 points on the game. His ability to slash into the lane and force secondary defenders to come over in help side opened up scoring opportunities for teammates.
Gehrig Normand Gehrig Normand 6'5" | SG Birdville | 2023 State #116 Nation TX , Birdville (TX)
Normand is best described as a guy who just gets it done any way he can. The 6-foot-6 wing is a transition slashing and finishing threat who has good pop off the floor when rising and finishing off transition scoring opportunities. Normand also showed his chops as a ball-handler in ball-screen action where he threw accurate and timely pocket passes and hook passes to his PNR partner, Zayden High. The Michigan State-commit scored 23 points in a variety of ways and added six rebounds and three assists.
Garwey Dual Garwey Dual 6'5" | PG Carmel | 2023 #113 Nation CA-S , Southern California Academy
Dual opened the game by creating a turnover on the very first possession and his defensive impact carried throughout the Midwest’s win over the East. The wiry 6-foot-4 wing was one of the few players who defended at a high level on the first day of this event. The Providence-commit used his combination of length, quick hands and lateral speed apply pressure to ball handlers, shoot passing lanes for steals and get his hands on balls for deflections. Dual had one of the most well-rounded games of the event with 21 points, eight steals and five assists.
Ty-Laur Johnson Ty-Laur Johnson 6'1" | PG St. Benedict's | 2023 #134 Nation NY , St. Benedict Prep (NJ)
Johnson used his quickness, change of speeds and explosive first step to get paint touches in both transition and half-court settings. The 6-foot point guard had a shiftiness to his game that allowed him to probe the lane, get two feet in the key and find open teammates. Johnson finished with 15 points, nine assists and only three turnovers while being his team’s primary ball handler.
