Following are five that caught my eye

6–9 2023 White Lake Lakeland One of the bigger players in the camp and he played like it. Exploited mismatches in the post throughout the 5-on-5 portion of the camp. So much so that his squad stayed on the court as winners for the duration of the afternoon. He has a nice soft touch around the basket. Can score over either shoulder. But what set him apart from other bigs in the camp was his ability to stretch the floor. Had no problem stepping out and hitting threes. This makes him an intriguing stretch 4/5 candidate at the next level. While he is skilled on the perimeter. He seems to know what he is and is comfortable as a traditional post. I should note he measured at 6-9 and a half inch. It doesn’t seem like much. But that extra half inch could matter down the road. If he gets to 6-10 that could really grab the attention of some coaches. There is something about that 6-10 threshold. Earned an offer from Northwood at the end of last summer. Had a good grassroots campaign with DTO Elite. Could be in line for more offers if he continues to play like he did on Sunday.
Davion Goins 6–6 2023 Cassopolis (pictured) I was excited to see this forward’s name on the participant list. I watched him a lot this summer with Indiana based Five Star Basketball on the Prep Hoops Circuit. He was arguably the best overall athlete I saw on the entire circuit. I was curious to see if this athleticism would still pop in a setting like this. In a word—a resounding yes. I knows that’s three words but you get my point. Covers so much ground with his long steps and lanky measurables. I was anxious to see how he would check out in the combine portion. Measured with an impressive 6-10 wingspan to go along with his 6-6 frame. This is a case of the measurables matching up to the eye test. But he is not a beanpole. Has thick arms and very broad shoulders. Unlike the first Ferris Elite camp. Verticals were not tested this time. I would have like to have seen how Goins’ checked out there. I would bet it would be pretty close to the coveted 40 inches. He can seriously get up. Had a several highlight reel dunks in the 5-on-5 scrimmages. Plays at a small school tucked in the far southwestern corner of the state. So camps like this are going to be big for his recruitment. He is not a finished product on the perimeter. But if you are a small college coach looking for a prospect with top shelf athleticism. This is the player to start with.

6–6 2024 Grand Rapids Christian Speaking of long lanky playmakers. Johnson nearly matched Goins on the day with above the rim plays. Johnson is a grade younger and a bit more refined on the perimeter. Showed off this skill set in the one-on-one drill station. Used good footwork to create space in tight quarters. This station limited players to the three dribbles on drives. Johnson used big steps and creative pivots to get out of some difficult spots. But the open court is where he thrives. Gets out quickly and fills lanes with purpose. Tested himself this summer on the EYBL with The Family. Could be in line for a big jump as he looks to break through in a deep rotation at Christian. It should be noted that this rotation was well represented at the camp with the presence of fellow 2024 point guard

5–10 2025 East Kentwood This camp did not have the plethora of underclassmen standouts that Ferris’ first iteration had earlier in the summer. But I would remiss if I did not mention the performance of this Grand Rapids area guard. He is not your typical young speed merchant point guard. Is powerfully built and has a mature game to match the frame. Excellent penetrator who attacks the rim without fear. Is able to accelerate quickly and stop on a dime. All complemented by a very tight handle. Coming off an excellent summer with a very good Grand Rapids Storm squad on the Under Armour Circuit. There is a lot of change coming to Falcons program. could be a part of a resurgence at what cloud be considered a bit of a sleeping giant.
Levi mckenzie Levi mckenzie 6'0" | PG Hamilton | 2023 State MI 6–0 2023 Forest Hills Central I was able to see this guard a lot last summer. Played on the Prep Hoops Circuit with B3 Athletics. I also saw him at a few elite camps. Always enjoyed his power guard game. But due to an injury (stress fracture/foot) this was the first time I was able to catch him this summer. Showed no signs of an injury by exploding to the rim in the one-on-one drill portion. Used this athleticism and a sturdy frame to score on much bigger players. The injury might have caught up to him slightly as he seemed to slow down a bit in the five-on-five scrimmage portion of the camp. But the nevertheless I was impressed with his overall performance. Especially considering the long layoff. Came off the bench for a good FHC squad in the regular season. Could be in line for a bigger role in what will still be a very good backcourt with Jonas VanderWoude Jonas VanderWoude 6'3" | PG Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI and Jake Koning
