Player comments from coach Mason Peterson
Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'1" | SF Oak Grove | 2027 ND |6’0 F| Oak Grove
“Easily one of the hardest workers each and every game. This kid battled for every rebound and had some really skilled footwork in the post for his age. Defensively he was always solid and even guarded all 5 spots at times when teams were a lot smaller than us.“
Seth Heidenreich Seth Heidenreich 5'8" | SG Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND |5’4 G| Fargo Davies
“A very high IQ kid who was really good at making the smart play. Very coachable kid and was a very unselfish player always looking to get his teammates involved. Can also shoot the lights out from deep when he gets going.“
Wesley Oye Wesley Oye 5'7" | SG Fargo North | 2027 State ND |5’2 G| Fargo North
“This kid was eager to learn every practice and every game. A super coachable kid that works his tail off defensively. His game improved a lot when he started to attack the paint more and finish over bigger defenders.“
Matt DuBord Matt DuBord 6'4" | PF Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND |6’3 F| Fargo Davies
“One of the bigger posts you will see at any 13u tournament that is truly a team first big. Matt was a great passer for his size and battled on the boards every game. He improved on his shot selection towards the end of the season and even started to hit some from deep!“
Tommy Baumgartner Tommy Baumgartner 6'4" | SG Shanley | 2027 State ND |6’0 G| Shanley
“Tommy is one of the best pure scorers at his age level and can score from all 3 levels. He really helped us offensively in a lot of games where points were hard to come by. His range from deep extends a couple feet behind the 3 point line!“
Drew Kessel Drew Kessel 6'6" | SF Fargo South | 2027 State ND |6’1 F| Fargo South
“Drew is one of the more athletic bigs for his age. He can rip and go past guards and also finish down low with the bigs. His outside game started to take off towards the end of the year making him a threat from both outside and inside. When the team needed someone to take away the other teams top scorer, Drew would step up and help us in a big way on the defensive end.“
Trenton Sitzer Trenton Sitzer 5'10" | SG Midway-Minto | 2027 State ND |5’4 G| Midway/Minto
“A sharpshooter who can stroke it from 3. When left open, you can bet on it going in. Trenton also brought energy on the defensive end by giving the opposing team barely any room to dribble!“
Brady Vetter Brady Vetter 6'2" | SG Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND |5’6 G| Fargo Davies
“Brady had some games where he just wouldn’t stop scoring! He can shoot it off the dribble at a high percentage and had a nose for scoring the ball when he really wanted too. He was a high energy kid that would go out there and work hard.“
Grady Ames Grady Ames 6'3" | PF Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND |6’2 F| Fargo Davies
“Grady was one of our big guys who manned the paint and played with a lot of grit. He helped us on the rebounding end and also swatted shots when people came into the paint.“
Q & A with coach Mason Peterson
PHD: What is your best memory from this AAU season?
Coach Peterson: “Going 3-1 in Minneapolis and seeing the boys play their best team basketball of the season.“
PHD: Who were a few of your hardest workers?
Coach Peterson: “My hardest workers had to be Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'1" | SF Oak Grove | 2027 ND , Wesley Oye Wesley Oye 5'7" | SG Fargo North | 2027 State ND , and Seth Heidenreich Seth Heidenreich 5'8" | SG Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND . These guys played hard every game and played tough nosed defense, as did a lot of my other players.“
“I also have to mention Trenton Sitzer Trenton Sitzer 5'10" | SG Midway-Minto | 2027 State ND because of how dedicated he was to making every practice while living in Minto.“
PHD: Can you talk about a few of your best defenders?
Coach Peterson: “ Drew Kessel Drew Kessel 6'6" | SF Fargo South | 2027 State ND was our best defender with his length and athletic ability he was able to guard any position and block a lot of shots.“
PHD: Who was your best rebounder and why?
Coach Peterson: “ Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'1" | SF Oak Grove | 2027 ND grabbed almost every rebound that came his way and always did his work early by getting into position early and fighting for every loose ball.“
“ Matt DuBord Matt DuBord 6'4" | PF Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND helped us a lot with his size and grabbing a plentiful amount of rebounds.“
PDD: Can you talk about your best shooter?
Coach Peterson: “ Tommy Baumgartner Tommy Baumgartner 6'4" | SG Shanley | 2027 State ND was a great shooter from all spots and could hit shots with very high difficulty. His off the dribble pull up game was so efficient and he was deadly from 3.“
“ Brady Vetter Brady Vetter 6'2" | SG Fargo Davies | 2027 State ND was also a very efficient shooter and could go off some games when his shot was on.“
PHD: Who improved the most over the season?
Coach Peterson: “The player that improved the most was Trenton Sitzer Trenton Sitzer 5'10" | SG Midway-Minto | 2027 State ND . I saw him evolve his game to the next level by stepping it up more on the defensive end as well as adding other elements to his offensive game rather than just shooting. I’m proud of how far he came from the beginning of the season.“
PHD: When you needed a big bucket, who was your “go-to” player?
Coach Peterson: “ Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'1" | SF Oak Grove | 2027 ND and Tommy Baumgartner Tommy Baumgartner 6'4" | SG Shanley | 2027 State ND were my 2 go-to bucket getters. If we needed an easy bucket down low we would get it to Jack in the post and he would use his footwork to get an easy 2. If we needed a last second shot or a big bucket we would go to Tommy and he would get the job done most of the time.“
