The camp featured several of the top young prospects from around the country. Here is a look at some New Names from Missouri players that caught my eye during the weekend.
Tristan Wiggins (Sikeston): A thick-bodied 6’0″ 2025 point guard who was one of the most physical players in the camp. He used that strong body to get downhill to the basket on the drive on a consistent basis. He was also good at finishing at the rim and if he didn’t he was in good position to get the putback himself. He was also a tenacious defender who did a good job of sitting down and keeping people in front of him. The school nickname for his team is the Bulldogs, which is appropriate because he attacks the game with a Bulldog-like mentality.
Vincent Frie (Park Hill): A 6’3″ 2025 shooting guard from Park Hill who has good size and a smooth shooting stroke from 3-point range. He was lighting it up from long distance in the first game that I watched him on Saturday. He plays the game under control and he doesn’t try to force things. He is a solid ball handler who can get to his spots and shoot over defenders and he will make the right pass.
Christian Pake (Principia): A 2025 point guard who has good speed and quickness, plus a good set of fundamentals to match. I like his feel for the game. He played fast, but he was never rushed. He was constantly looking to push the tempo and he did a nice job of finding open teammates with some nifty passes in the open court. He can score well off of his dribble penetration in the lane and he has a good shooting touch from 3-point range.
Kevion Smith (Normandy): a 6’0″ 2025 lefty combo guard who plays with a high motor and who is also very unselfish. His court vision was very good as he had some nifty passes in transition, including a pair of flashy no-look dimes that led to layups. His handles were also solid and he could also knock down the open 3-pointer as well as the pull up jumper in the lane.
D.J. Johnson (John Burroughs): A 6’4″ 2024 small forward who has good length and a solid skill set on the perimeter. He had an impressive showing during Saturday’s game action as he stayed on the attack and did a nice job finishing at the rim or pulling up to hit the short jumper. He also knocked down the open 3-pointer from the corner. He projects as a wing prospect who is going to get better as he gains physical strength.
