The camp which takes place at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted over 300 players. and featured skills, drills, and 5 on 5 competition. In addition to the basketball action, Balldawgs provided food and back-to-school supplies to the campers. Day 2 of the event was open to high school players, providing me with a perfect opportunity to get a look at some future prospects before the release of the upcoming rankings. Here’s our eval of the ranked prospects at the camp.
Zakeus Mcdowell Zakeus Mcdowell 6'6" | SF Mojave | 2023 State NV 6’6 SF Mojave 2023 (#56) Mcdowell looked taller at first glance, and after speaking with him he confirmed he grew a few inches over the summer. He also seemed more explosive. Before his legs gave out, he was playing above the rim, getting out in transition, and finishing with his share of dunks. The growth spurt is a nice bonus, his ability to identify an area of the floor to score the ball will be the next step in his maturation.
Tayshaun Waldrop Tayshaun Waldrop 6'0" | PG Basic | 2024 State NV 5’11 PG Basic 2024 (#65) -Waldrop caught my eye with his quickness and wiggle. I wish he would have finished a little better, but I’ll chalk it up to rust. Overall his physical tools should give him a chance to fair well at Basic this season. He showed the ability to break down defenders and get into the lane at will.
RJ Nance RJ Nance 6'2" | SG Centennial | 2024 State #313 Nation NV 6’0 CG Centennial 2024 (#12) – Nance lived up to his reputation as one of the top 1 v 1 players in the state. The lefty got wherever he wanted using a nasty crossover COD to lose defenders. Camp set is perfect for his wiggle and skill, and he showed why he’s a dark horse state scoring champion candidate this season.
Tremayne Anderson Tremayne Anderson 6'6" | SF Rosemary Anderson Prep | 2025 State OR 6’6 SF Centennial 2025 (#8) (featured image) – Anderson has a unique skill set and it was fun to watch it on display. He’s one of the most unselfish players in the state, sometimes to a fault. At 6’6 with point forward skills Anderson was a matchup nightmare, displaying good grab-and-go ability, to match his passing. When you add in the occasional three, Iso Tramayne was fully activated.
Khamari Taylor Khamari Taylor 5'11" | CG Desert Oasis | 2024 State NV 5’11 CG Sierra Vista 2024 (#21PHN 2024) -Taylor is known more for his defense, but at the camp, it was on the offensive end of the ball where he impressed. He showed a little wiggle, however, was most effective with straight line drives to the cup.
CJ Shaw CJ Shaw 6'3" | SG Mojave | 2025 State #212 Nation NV 6’3 SG Mojave 2025 (#4PHN 2025) – Shaw is one of the top rising freshmen in the state. His ability to drive and score is well know, but he looks like he has also increased his athleticism over the past 6 months. Shaw routinely played above the rim, exploding from the floor off two.
