Today we look at a host of the rising juniors to watch from across the state and showcase the varying skillsets across the state.
Daniel Yarus Daniel Yarus 6'6" | SF Spotswood | 2024 State NJ | 6’6” | F | Spotswood
Yarus had a breakout sophomore year for the Chargers. He can play several positions in the front court. Long forward who can get around the rim and finish but also step back to the perimeter, making him a matchup nightmare for many defenders. Solid shooter and hits the boards hard. He had 20 vs JFK, 18 vs North Plainfield and 16 vs Middlesex last year and is set to take the county by storm this winter.
Michaelangelo Oberti Michaelangelo Oberti 6'10" | C Morris Catholic | 2024 State NJ | 6’8” | F | Morris Catholic
Fleet-of-foot big who is still growing into his wide frame. Runs the floor well for a big man and moves the ball very well. Can finish around the rim and executes the pick-and-roll well. He’ll be a key piece for Morris Catholic the next two years. He rolled up the double-double count last year, including 14&16 vs Union Catholic. Colleges should start paying attention to what’s brewing at Morris Catholic.
Eunique Rink Eunique Rink 6'9" | C College Achieve | 2024 State NJ |6’8” | F | Payne Tech
One of the top big men in the class of 2024 in the Garden State. He’s a fighter in the post and can finish strong at the rim. Very athletic on defense and uses that skill to be an effective shot blocker. He will be a force in Essex County the next two years. He had 14&11 vs North Bergen and 16 vs East Orange. Double-doubles in 3 of his last 5 games. He had 80 blocks as a sophomore. Should project as a scholarship level player.
Caleb Embeya Caleb Embeya 6'9" | C St. Maria Goretti | 2024 State #238 Nation MD | 6’9” | F | Patrick School
Embeya had a solid summer with the Roadrunners for Sandy Pyonin and his inside game was on display throughout the AAU period. He runs the floor exceptionally well for a big man and has strong move and a soft finish around the rim. He’s an aggressive rebounder and shot blocker with a high ceiling. Scholarship level forward.
Savod Godwin Savod Godwin 6'5" | SF Arts | 2024 State NJ | 6’5” | F | Newark Arts
Athletic forward who can run the floor well but does his damage in the post. He has a mature frame but its far from “filled out”—That will provide him a bigger advantage as he continues to grow and put on muscle. He’s a rugged defender who rebounds with intensity. He had some solid performances last year, including 17&12 vs East Orange and 13&13 vs Montclair. Part of a loaded Arts team, he should be a scholarship level player.
