2024 AJ Swinton talks Peach Jam, Oak Hill, Recruitment
The Will Barton Elite Camp was a hub for talent over the weekend and showcased prospects ranging from the MD/DC area all the way to Canada. Among the standouts of this event was 2024 Oak Hill and Team Takeover guard AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA .
The 6-foot-6 guard is coming off a 16U EYBL Peach Jam championship and his game looks as polished as ever. His shot-making ability, fluidity off the bounce and overall versatility all contribute to high expectations for production in the NIBC this season.
“Obviously winning Peach Jam was big,” Swinton told Prep Hoops. “We’re the first 16U Takeover team to win it, so it just means a lot. That’s something you can talk about for the rest of your life. During that whole week and even before, I felt like I was showing people more of my game. Just being able to make thing happen off the dribble, create more opportunities for my teammates, rebound and push the ball up the floor.”
Swinton also spoke about his focus for the next couple of months.
“The NIBC is no joke, so I’m just getting ready as I can. Working every day. The whole coaching staff at Oak Hill just made it feel like the best move for me and my family. I’m far away from them, but the brotherhood that they’re forming there is special, and I can’t wait to get to work with them.”
While it’s expected for more programs to get involved as he takes the floor with Oak Hill, a few have begun prioritizing Swinton and getting a head start in the sweepstakes.
Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and UConn are the programs that have been in consistent contact.
“I’m hoping to plan a visit with Ohio State here soon. I’ll visit Virginia Tech as well and possibly Pittsburgh probably around September.”
What is Swinton looking for in a school?
“I’m looking for a coaching staff that doesn’t just like what I do, but loves what I do. A staff who wants me to succeed and help build character. Obviously, I’m looking for a team that operates like a family as well.”
