We’ll take a look at positional rankings, ranking the guards, wings and bigs.
Here’s a look at part three of the wings rankings, ranking the top 5 shooting guards and small forwards in the class of 2024.
5) Markus Robinson Markus Robinson 6'2" | SG Veritas | 2024 State VA | 6’3” SG | Veritas (#12 Overall)
Robinson has already had one of the most prolific high school careers of anyone you’ll come across, as the upstate NY native has been playing high school basketball since he was in seventh grade and has already amassed over 3,000 career points, and recently moved to VA where he reclassified at Veritas in Virginia Beach. He’s an old school two guard who gets buckets effortlessly from multiple levels, he doesn’t force things on the offensive end and knows how to get to spots and use his body to create space and he’s a dead eye shooter both from deep and in the midrange. He’s a smooth operator who can score it efficiently without taking many bad shots and can still take over a game and keep everyone else involved.
4) Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA | 6’4” SG | Osbourn (#8 Overall)
Barbour is one of the fastest stock risers in the 2024 class after having a breakout sophomore season at Osbourn and continuing his ascent this summer with DC Premier on the UAA Circuit. The 6’4” two guard is very long and likely still growing, he’s a big time shooter from deep who has in the gym range and the ability to get his shot off easily with a quick release and good footwork on the move and he can put it on the deck and get to the rim where he can use his size to finish. He’s quickly establishing himself as one of the top shooters in the DMV and he will turn a lot of heads with college coaches as he continues to get seen more.
3) AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA | 6’6” SG | Oak Hill Academy (#3 Overall)
Now we get to the top 3 prospects in the class, all wings and all hailing from the DMV area, starting with Swinton who announced he will attend national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in SWVA after starring at DMV power DeMatha the past few years. Swinton is a big wing who is an explosive athlete and has started to round his game out nicely over the past few years, polishing up his perimeter skillset and learning how to play the game more. He thrives in transition with his athletic finishing ability and his ability to run the floor as well, he can put it on the deck in straight lines to get to the basket and get to spots to knock down shots in the midrange and he has a very high ceiling on both ends but particularly on the defensive end as he can guard multiple positions and block shots as a hep side defender and in chase downs.
2) Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6'7" | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA | 6’6” SG | Paul VI (#2 Overall)
The hardest part about the rankings class for us was the top 3, in particular the #1 spot as all three could end up there based on potential, and Abraham has the chance to be the top guy in VA if not one of the top in the country when it’s all said and done. He’s a naturally dynamic athlete who is showtime when he’s out in transition or when he gets downhill and is fearless around the rim, he’s really fine tuned his handle and ability to create space and make shots in isolation situations and he’s improved in his consistency as a catch-and-shoot guy from deep. He has the size, physical and athletic tools and natural talent that all translate to the highest level in college, and with a budding skillset that will only get better he still has a lot of room to improve as well.
1) Darren Harris Darren Harris 6'6" | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA | 6’6” SF | Paul VI (#1 Overall)
Harris gets the slight nod for the #1 player in the inaugural 2024 class rankings as he is arguably the best shooter at his size and age that I have seen in my years scouting the state of Virginia. At 6’6” Harris has a strong frame and has slimmed up making him more mobile and more athletic as well, he moves extremely well on the perimeter coming off of screens and relocating and in transition he can get to spots where he sets up and lets it fly with a very quick release and he’s always ready to shoot the basketball weather the play is ran for him or not. He has extremely deep and effortless range off the catch, he can put it on the deck and attack closeouts and has a good IQ and he is a good help side defender who can block shots and rebound as well. He already holds a number of high major offers and he’ll pick up even more as he continue to gets seen by coaches.
