In this article, I’m going to break down the top performers that I saw on Wednesday at the camp.
Ayden Carter Ayden Carter 6'4" | SG Fremont Ross | 2023 State OH , 6’3 SG Fremont Ross 2023: Carter was one of the more athletic players at the entire event. Carter is not known as a shooter but did make a mid-range pull-up. His shooting progression is something that I’ve closely monitored as I’ve watched him this spring and summer. Overall, Carter was simply playing like one of the top guys at the event, which is what you want to see from a prospect as highly regarded as Carter.
James Maholm James Maholm 6'0" | PG Dublin Scioto | 2023 State OH , 6’0 CG Dublin Scioto 2023: Maholm competes on both ends, makes shots and plays off two feet in the paint. Those simple skills will be things that small college coaches love, and he brings each of those to the table. Maholm also hit the game winning shot in overtime of the championship game for the first session. I just found out about Maholm not too long ago and really like what I’ve seen recently.
Trenton Collins Trenton Collins 6'4" | SF Utica | 2023 State OH , 6’4 SF Utica 2023: Collins was another prospect who was just a better athlete than a lot of other guys on the floor. Collins scored easily in transition and was stronger than the defenders guarding him on drives to the basket. Collins recently picked up an offer from Delta State and has a lot of momentum going his way right now.
Mikey McCollum Mikey McCollum 6'3" | PG Olentangy Orange | 2023 State OH , 6’3 PG Olentangy Orange 2023: McCollum hit a nasty 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the championship game of the first session in OT. He followed it up with a nice and-1 in OT. McCollum is a player I’ve watched a lot over the past 12 months, and he consistently performs at a high level by shooting the ball efficiently from the outside and getting his teammates involved.
Elias Lewis Elias Lewis 6'2" | SG Olentangy Orange | 2023 State OH , 6’3 SG Olentangy Orange 2023. Lewis is a deadeye shooter and was my most impressive prospect from the second session. Lewis moves well without the ball and doesn’t need much space to launch from deep. I’m surprised Lewis hasn’t posted any offers yet, but with how many D2’s were talking about him, I don’t think it will take long for that to happen.
