With so many great programs featuring talented prospects it is quite the daunting task to try and give everyone the coverage they deserve. Especially with teams spread out across different circuits it can be hard to find a natural way to efficiently break down everything. I’ve decided that the easiest way to do this, and provided the most individual coverage, will be to simply go team-by-team across the state. This exercise will run through the end of August so be patient as we work through all of the teams. With a rankings update coming at the beginning of the month we will have a lot of other content being pushed out as well.
In these program spotlights we will feature a top prospect, a top stock-riser, and an under-the-radar name. Then, I will simply empty out the notebook with some other thoughts and takeaways that have been compiled over the last few months as it pertains to that team. Let’s dive on in.
Top Prospect: Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023/EG10 2023)
Man, what a summer it was for this 6’2″ left-handed guard. Carson really made a name for himself on the Prep Hoops Circuit as one of the best pure scorers at seemingly every event. He handles the ball well, plays through contact, and can really, really shoot it. His scoring ability earned him recent scholarship offers from Wisconsin-Milwaukee and South Carolina State. Carson has proven himself as one of the best scorers in the state of Indiana and is poised for a huge senior season at Anderson. His ability to go for 30-40 points in any game will certainly make him one to follow this upcoming season.
Top Stock-Riser: Matthew King Matthew King 6'3" | SG Bosco Institute | 2024 IN (Hammond Central H.S. 2024/EG10 2024)
King really did a lot to not only turn the heads of opponents across the state, but also get the attention of college coaches this summer. The long, athletic 6’3″ wing was a consistent force for EG10 2024 which was one of the best teams in the age group on the Prep Hoops Circuit. He is excellent when attacking the basket off of the dribble, makes good decisions as a secondary playmaker with the ball, and has the athleticism to be a high upside two-way wing. His outside shooting ability has really come along too giving him another facet of his game for defensives to deal with. I would expect a breakout junior season for him up at Hammond Central.
Under-the-Radar Name: Shaun Arnold Shaun Arnold 6'5" | PF Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023/EG10 2023)
Recently, this 6’5″ forward has started to create some buzz and recently earned his first scholarship offer from St. Thomas Aquinas College, a Division II school in New York. We’ve written quite a bit about Arnold recently here at Prep Hoops Indiana after some outstanding performances at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta. He is an outstanding rebounder for his size, can defend multiple positions, and plays with the best motor of anybody in the state. Will be a key piece for one of the best teams in Indiana this year at Ben Davis.
Other Program Notes
- 5’11” guard Hudson Horvath Hudson Horvath 6'1" | PG Park Tudor | 2025 State IN (Park Tudor 2025/EG10 2025) was excellent all summer long as a mainstay on Grit Region All-Tournament teams. He is an outstanding scorer with creativity off the dribble and a great three-point shooting stroke. He’s definitely a name to remember in the rising sophomore class.
- Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 5'9" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN (North Central H.S. 2024/EG10 2024) continued to show himself as one of the top playmakers in Indiana’s 2024 class. He is so dynamic off of the dribble with an explosive first step and the ability to get downhill in a hurry. Really hard to guard in transition and ball screen situations.
- Speaking of point guards, there weren’t many prospects on the Prep Hoops Circuit that finished the summer as strong as Devon Woods Devon Woods 5'10" | PG Pike | 2023 State IN (Pike H.S. 2023/EG10 2023) did. The dynamic 5’10” point guard finishes very well for his size, has a great mid-range game, and is a pesky on-ball defender. He can really score the basketball and is a high-assist guy as well.
- As a group, the EG10 2025 team had a lot of success and was a fun group to watch. Three of their players started as freshmen at their respecitve high schools: Eric Hopson Eric Hopson 6'0" | SG Decatur Central | 2025 IN (Decatur Central H.S. 2025), Caleb Wright Caleb Wright 6'2" | PG Sheridan | 2025 State IN (Sheridan H.S. 2025), and Zion Bellamy Zion Bellamy 5'8" | PG Kokomo | 2025 State IN (Kokomo H.S. 2025). Hopson is a supremely talented scorer with great athleticism. Wright is a great three-point shooter that led EG10 in assists with 3.5 per game. Bellamy is a shifty point guard with a lot of playmaking ability.
- For college programs looking for size, take a look at 6’9″ center Dylan Watson Dylan Watson 6'9" | C Castle | 2023 State IN (Castle H.S. 2023/EG10 2023). He plays hard, rebounds his area well, and has good touch on the block. Has garnered a good amount of Division III interest.
