Saturday AM Special Players
Teysean Eaglestaff Teysean Eaglestaff 6'7" | SF Bismarck | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’6 F| The Pack 2023
He recently moved from South Dakota and he will now be going to Bismarck High. I imagine the BHS staff is ecstatic about Teysean. They lose an Eaglestaff and they gain an Eaglestaff all in the same offseason! Teysean is the younger brother of BHS great Treysen Eaglestaff who will be playing hoops at UND this coming year. Teysean looks like a forward but he has the skills and wherewithal of a PG. He is also a sharpshooter from downtown. Teysean knocked down multiple smooth catch-n-shoot triples this morning. He also made many nice passes. He threw accurate deep passes on outlets and he drove and kicked to shooters. On defense, his timing and long arms led to many contested shots. Get ready for possibly the best New Name in the WDA, they call him Teysean Eaglestaff Teysean Eaglestaff 6'7" | SF Bismarck | 2024 State ND !
Keetan Eagle Keetan Eagle 5'10" | SG Bismarck | 2024 ND |5’10 SG| The Pack 2023
He is a shooter through and through. Keetan drilled numerous triples off the catch. He is always ready to fire. Keetan sets his feet quickly and his release is as fluid as they come. He also scrapped and fought for rebounds against the BIGs from the opposing team. Keetan showed a crafty score in the lane that came from a spin-move and a fall-away floater. I would suspect that Keetan will have a big season in Class B for Solen.
Ayden Klein Ayden Klein 5'11" | SG MOC-Floyd Valley | 2023 State IA |6’0 G| Pentagon Schoolers 17U Walker
Schoolers win again! Klein helped his squad pick up a 61-39 second-round win in the Gold Bracket. This was the best that I have seen Ayden pass the ball. He was slashing to create and he delivered many dimes! Klein was a facilitator and a delivery man. He made it deep into the paint, drew the help, and dished beautiful touch passes. Ayden also made a couple of nice passes in transition that led to easy scores. The Iowa kid also cashed in a triple and hustled for offensive rebounds. As always, he got the job done on the defensive end. It was a great game for Mr. Klein.
Elliot Whitney Elliot Whitney 6'0" | CG Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State SD |6’0 G| Pentagon Schoolers 17U Walker
He was a maestro with the ball or maybe I should say he looked like Pistol Pete! In the first half, Elliot was leading the break on a 2-on-1 situation. As he neared the basket, the defender came after Elliot and he threaded the needle with an amazing behind-the-back touch pass to Akot for an easy score. He made it look easy with little effort. The best part was, he made the spectacular play look like nothing special, he hustled back on D and gave his teammate a high five. LOVE IT! In the second half, he also threw a behind-the-back bounce pass that was accurate and effective. Whitney showed off his craftiness again with a spin move finish. He also put in a full-contact finish at the rim. Elliot is proving to be a true playmaker!
Matt Eng Matt Eng 6'0" | PG O’gorman | 2023 State SD |6’2 G| Pentagon Schoolers 17U Walker
The Sniper from OG did it again! He was a smoking gun in the first half with four made three-pointers. It seems like Eng typically swishes his triples and goes pure net. Matt showed off his soft shooter’s touch today. One of the trips caught every part of the rim but he had the perfect amount of backspin on the ball that it rolled around and went in. Have I mentioned that this kid is a pure shooter?
Gavin Muirhead Gavin Muirhead 6'7" | PF O'gorman | 2023 State SD |6’7 PF| Pentagon Schoolers 17U Walker
The USF commit was after it again and he helped the Schoolers roll to another comfortable victory. Tally up a few more SLAMS for Muirhead. The 6’7 athlete seems to dunk more than he scores on layups. He was tough on the boards again. I love how he skies above his opponents for the ball. The D2 commit showed his awareness with a timely cut and score. As always, Gavin blocked shots. He is phenomenal at going up to contest/alter/block without fouling.
Cole Peterson Cole Peterson 6'2" | PG Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 State SD |6’1 G| Pentagon Schoolers 17 Walker
Man, this kid gets better with every showing! Peterson is an artisan on the hardwood. I love watching him weave through traffic and score against bigger defenders. I noticed this last night and he did it again, Cole throws many left-handed passes. He does not do it to show off, he only throws them when the defense is overplaying his right side. Peterson is also a clever player that scored with run-out layups when he knew a fellow Schooler secured the rebound.
Jaxon Hennies Jaxon Hennies 6'1" | SG Dakota Valley | 2023 State SD |6’1 SG| Arena Basketball Club 2023 Berridge
He was the engine that almost brought his team back to an upset win over the Northstar Titans. However, it was not enough. At the same time, it was great to see the fight in Hennies. He hit shot after shot late in the game. Jaxon cashed in a three when his team really needed it. He was also penetrating and scoring at the cup. Hennies is tough and hardnosed. He got after the boards and there is no quit in the DV kid. His stock continues to rise after every time I see him play.
Kodi Miller |6’1 G| Coulee Country 2023
21 points with four 3-pointers. He stuck out as a fearless player and as a sparkplug. Miller was impressive from beyond the arc with deep triples. He was hitting them off the bounce and the catch. One of them was from NBA depth. I love his confidence and competitiveness. He is not just a shooter. Kodi scored in transition with defenders in his face. He put in an AND1 score and drained multiple FT’s throughout the game. Miller also took a charge and gobbled-up O-boards. Kodie had a great game in the upset win over the WI Crusaders.
Bennett Fried Bennett Fried 6'6" | SF La Crosse Central | 2023 State WI |6’6 F| Coulee Country 2023
14 points with two 3-pointers. He is long, athletic, and silky smooth. Fried showed off his shooting ability in the first half with 2 triples. He exhibited slick footwork with a Euro-step finish. Bennett is a high-riser. He drove the baseline and finished with an athletic SLAM. Fried also had an O-board tip-in. He is a smart player, Fried used a shot fake to fool the D, and he finished the play with an easy layup. Late in the game, Bennett showed his craftiness when he stepped through a double team and scored a big bucket to help ice the victory.
Carson Koepnick Carson Koepnick 6'2" | SG West Salem | 2023 State WI |6’1 G| Coulee Country 2023
7 points and one 3-pointer. All of his scoring game in the 2nd half and he helped close out the win. Carson nailed his 3-pointer from the coffin corner. Shortly after he showed a heady backdoor cut and score. I love seeing old-school plays like that. He is a smart and quick cutter. His other score came with a lefty slash-n-score. Koepnick plays hard and he gave his team extra possessions with offensive rebounds.
Max Tutas |6’4 SG/SF| Wisconsin Crusaders 2023 Premier
10 points. I like this player’s game. Max did not force shots but he was always attacking. If he did not have a good look he moved the ball inside of taking a contested shot or pounding the ball. In the first half, Tutas scored on a streaking baseline drive. Max has a nice mid-range game. He knocked down multiple jumpers in the paint. Tutas is an aggressive slasher with impressive strength. The lefty also got the line and knocked down FT’s. On defense, Max showed good awareness with a tip steal and deflections.
Jack Field |6’6 F| House of Wellness All-Stars 2023
I did not catch how many points he finished with but Jack had 10 points in the first half and he helped his squad get a comfortable early morning win. Early on, Field showed a sweet baby hook from the middle of the lane. He showed off that soft touch multiple times with crafty floaters. It did not matter if a defender was in his face, he still was able to get his floater off. Jack plays hard, he scored with an O-board tip in and he created TO’s. I like how he moved the ball and how he fed the ball to interior players. I was very impressed with Field this morning.
Avery Schroeder Avery Schroeder 6'5" | SF Eau Claire Memorial | 2023 WI |6’5 PF| House of Wellness All-Stars 2023
He showed impressive hang time on multiple finishes. Avery showed the ability to hang in the air and finish after the defense got out of his way. His strength was on display when finishing through contact for an AND1 score. He also did work on the offensive glass. Jared is 6’5 with a long wingspan, add in a motor that doesn’t stop, and you have a very nice player.
Jared Nevar |6’3 SF| House of Wellness All-Stars 2023
He stood out in the 8:00 AM game as a strong and bouncy athlete. Jared had many athletic finishes at the rim. He was great at catching on the wing, ripping, and attacking the defense. When at the rim, he can finish in a variety of ways with power or finesse. When going up to score, Jared explodes. Nevar also showed that he can stroke the 3-ball.
