After winning our 3-point contest at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta Powered by PUMA and Hibbett Sports, Jordan Malmlov Jordan Malmlov 6'0" | CG Prescott | 2023 State WI (2023) of Minnesota Select Mantey proved he was the best shooter in the gym. All competitors were given 1 ball, 1 rebounder, and 90 seconds to make as many 3’s as they could. Despite challenges from 260 other athletes, Jordan stood out from the crowd knocking down 24 3’s and winning the 3-point contest by 2.
Not only did Jordan’s shooting performance in the 3-point contest put our scouts on watch, but his performances all year have been noted by our scouts across the country. Here’s what they’ve had to say:
Terry Drake from Prep Hoops Live Atlanta Powered by PUMA x Hibbett Sports:
“Jordan was phenomenal in scoring the rock. There was a lot of talk surrounding this game as it was Jordan’s first game of the weekend, and quite a few people who know Jordan or know of Jordan settled around the court to watch him in action. It was my first time seeing him in action, and J. did not disappoint as he is a gifted scorer, handles the ball well, and is an elite passer. He can stroke the rock from deep and needs very little space to get his shot off. When he is dancing with the rock and rocking the defender to sleep, it is as good as over because, at any moment, he can let it fly. His game off the bounce has to be respected, so he puts defenders in uncomfortable situations, not knowing how to defend him, which leads to having a mindset of picking your poison when guarding him. Colorado started running two defenders at him, which seemed to be the only effective strategy to slow him down, yet, even out of the double-teams, Jordan made heady passes that led to easy buckets.
Jordan showed effortless range, crafty finishes, and just an overall brilliant floor game. When I look back over his game, the thing that stood out in my mind and would not leave me was his cutting and constant moving, which was a beautiful thing to watch. One of the many highlights from Jordan during this game was when he came sprinting off a screen going to his left, stepped into a c&s opportunity, and hit nothing but the bottom of the nets, leaving me wondering who will acquire this exceptional talent at the next level. As much of a scoring threat J is, his defense does not lack as he is an active on-ball defender who is engaged and understands his rotations. As a PG, Jordan showed his ability to facilitate but make no mistake about it; I finish with how I started, he is s PG that can flat-out score the rock. He finished the contest against Colorado Titans with the following numbers:
20pts (4-3’s) in 69-63 win over Colorado Titans ’23”
Ryan James:
“ Jordan Malmlov Jordan Malmlov 6'0" | CG Prescott | 2023 State WI is a charter member of the 40% Club (consistently shoots over 40 percent from the arc). Malmlov is about 6’0 so he has worked extensively on shooting from 25 feet and in, and despite constant attention he shot 41.4 percent from the arc last year as a junior and has upped that to nearly 43 percent shooting behind the arc for Minnesota Select! Jordan is known for his ability to shoot the ball but he falls into the combo guard category at times because he can also run a team as a one. His steady handle and ability to enter the ball into the offense and then become a threat moving off screens off the ball make Jordan a threat at all times. Jordan’s teammates love playing with him because of his character and because he rarely takes a bad shot. This is a scorer that produces in efficient, high percentage ways.”
Grant Matheny:
“Malmlov may be the best pure shooter that I was able to watch this past spring. He has a pure shot form from deep and doesn’t miss many looks when left open. He isn’t just a shooter, though. Malmlov has proved himself in other areas. He can get downhill and score with ease at the cup. The point guard is also a stout defender who can create turnovers. I really like Malmlov’s overall game — he is very fun to watch.”
