PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine Evaluations: Part IX
The annual @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine featured nearly 50 aspiring college prospects. For the rest of the summer we will be featuring the campers with evaluations and measurements from the day.

NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2021 Thunder Ty Jerome
College Projection: Division III
Wonderful shuttle run time. (3.3 seconds). The shuttle run requires good lateral movement and quick-turn sprinting. Success in this drill can convey a high capacity to defend the perimeter strongly. Evans defended well, and projects as a good perimeter defender, as long as he add upper body muscle. At the guard position footwork is imperative, but a strong, brave chest/shoulders can be a fantastic deterrent too.
Maguire competed well at the combine event. He did hit some shots in isolation, but the handle was not tight enough to enable him to slip past defenders.
Outside shooting is a strength. Maguire’s form was and is consistent and stream-lined. There is nothing to fix with his shot. Though free throws rarely occurred at our event, he is likely a wonderful free throw shooter, considering his success as a shooter.
His sprint speed needs to improve, and it will as he physically matures. Change of direction was nice. Evans played very well late July with BMaze Elite 15u.
Improving his power will be the first step, needed for him to get the most out of his tangible skills: shooting, defending, passing. The game is big and fast and Maguire needs to prepare his body accordingly heading into his sophomore season.
Caiden Botts | 6’4” SG/SF | Silverdale Baptist Academy | NYBA
How did he measure against the competition?
- Class of 2024
- 6’4″
- Wingspan — 6’6″
- Shuttle Run — 3.3, 3.4
- 3/4-Court Sprint — 3.9, 3.7
- Handspan – 9.25″
- Hand Width – 8.00″
- Lane Agility — 11.08, 10.42
- Camp Ranking — #25
- State Ranking — #52
NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2020 Pistons Josh Jackson
College Projection: NAIA
Caiden was just outside the All-Star selections from the day, and in all honesty in two years his omission will look absurd. Botts did not have his best day, and looked more effective during his April/May AAU runs. With his mixture of size and speed, Botts will be a college basketball player if he maintains his current trajectory. What bothered during his PrepHoopsTN Combine performance was his activity. He did not move away from the basketball and did not defend at the of which he is undeniably capable. Botts, at 6-foot-4 with slightly above average speed and agility, should be a strong wing defender every possession. Sure, the 5-on-5 format was loose and largely devoid of coaching, but Botts needs to employ more self-motivation on the more taxing end of the floor.

Caiden’s hand size was near the largest of the day: 9.25″ x 8.00″. The sprint speed was average, though take into account he was bigger than average and the smaller guards almost always dominate the sprint drills.
The athleticism of Botts at 6-foot-4+ is better than the average high school basketball player. He can handle and attacks in a very direct, largely effective way.
