After a quick stop at UAA/UA Rise Session III this morning, I spent the rest of the day at the Cobb Galleria Center for Prep Hoops Live Atlanta. Here is today’s notebook from all of the action at the Prep Hoops event.
Circle City Shooters Win in Impressive Fashion
Admittedly, Saturday was the first time I had sat down and watch a full game of the Circle City Shooters this summer. I’ve seen bits and pieces of games through the spring, but today I made it my goal to sit down and get a more thorough evaluation on these guys. The team certainly lived up to the occasion playing a complete game as they took down a solid Griffin Elite-Bordas squad 71-56.
Leading the way for the Circle City Shooters was physical wing Maury Lewis Maury Lewis 6'2" | SG Indiana Math & Science Academy | 2023 IN (Indiana Math & Science 2023) with 21 points. 6’4″ wing Shane Handlon Shane Handlon 6'4" | SG Southport | 2023 IN (Southport H.S. 2023) added 14 points including four three-pointers in the first half to get things going. Handlon, who missed time with a wrist injury, is an intriguing under-the-radar prospect on the perimeter.
EG10 17u Take Down Talented MN Chill Elite
This was as balanced of a scoring attack as you will see from EG10. Devon Woods Devon Woods 5'10" | PG Pike | 2023 State IN (Pike H.S. 2023) was excellent early on setting the tone with some spectacular drives to the basket. Shaun Arnold Shaun Arnold 6'5" | PF Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023) instilled some toughness from the tip as well with his non-stop motor and tenacity on the boards. However, in the end, it was Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023) leading the way as always.
Carson finished with a game-high 21 points while Arnold scored 19 points and Woods chipped in 15 points.
Team GRIII Elite 16u & 17u Dominate 2nd Halves
Team GRIII Elite 16u turned a four point halftime lead into an easy, running clock victory winning by the score of 82-58. David Cundiff David Cundiff 6'0" | PG Munster | 2024 State IN (Munster H.S. 2024) shot it very well in the second half scoring 16 of his game-high 22 points after the break. He also hit four of his five three-pointers in the second half. Tyler Parrish Tyler Parrish 6'3" | SG Chesterton | 2024 State IN (Chesterton H.S. 2024), another excellent outside shooter, added 21 points in the win.
As for Team GRIII Elite 17u, they actually had to come from behind. Trailing by as many as double figures, recent Ball State commit Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN (Valparaiso H.S. 2023) began to mount the comeback in the second half in front of his future head coach Michael Lewis. The 6’7″ forward scored a game-high 20 points while showing off his versatility offensively. Cooper Farrall Cooper Farrall 6'5" | SF Culver Academy | 2023 State IN (Culver Academy 2023), Brandon Trilli Brandon Trilli 6'5" | SF Munster | 2023 State IN (Munster H.S. 2023), and Luke McBride Luke McBride 6'1" | PG Norwell | 2023 State IN (Norwell H.S. 2023) added 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.
Extra Notes on Indiana Prospects
- I thought Ollie Sandman Ollie Sandman 6'3" | SG Shelbyville | 2023 State IN (Shelbyville H.S. 2023) played really well in the second half for EG10 17u. The 6’2″ guard is a very good shooter with some strength to his frame. Definitely one for small college to look at if you need some backcourt help.
- Jasmin Suvalija (Fishers H.S. 2023) and Keilyn Moore (Avon H.S. 2023) were good in a one-point loss for INB Platinum Elite 17. Suvalija got to the basket consistently and showed off a good pull-jumper. Moore is a super athletic guard who can also really shoot it from beyond the arc.
- A pair of small, thin guards in Elijah Crockett (Franklin Central H.S. 2023) and Darius Banks (Arsenal Tech H.S. 2023) played well for the Circle City Shooters on Saturday afternoon. Both are explosive off of the dribble and can elevate to finish around the rim.
Notes on Out-of-State Prospects
- The Mid-Ohio Pumas had a few prospects that I really liked while watching them on Saturday afternoon. A pair of front court guys stood out with their skill level early on in 6’5″ forward Jack Ullom Jack Ullom 6'5" | SF Mason | 2023 State OH (Mason H.S. 2023) and 6’7″ forward Henri Young Henri Young 6'7" | PF Centennial | 2023 State OH (Centennial H.S. 2023). Both are mobile, showed the ability to face-up and score away from the basket, and also finished well around the rim. Jordan Edwards Jordan Edwards 6'3" | PG Olentangy Orange | 2023 State OH (Olentangy Orange H.S. 2023) also impressed as a physical 6’3″ guard that plays through contact very well.
- Jeremiah Fears Jeremiah Fears 6'1" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2025 State #31 Nation AZ (Joliet West H.S. 2025) scored 42 points while playing up two age divisions with Hoops 4 Health 17u on Saturday evening. It doesn’t take long to see why he is one of the most talented rising sophomores in the country.
- 6’9″ forward Jason Jakstys Jason Jakstys 6'10" | C Yorkville | 2024 State #141 Nation IL (Yorkville H.S. 2024) had a great morning playing with Basketball Paradise 16u. He’s one of the best rim runners on the circuit, protects the rim defensively, and flashes interior skill offensively.
