With the help of our company’s new partners in Puma and Hibbett Sports we were able to put on a first class event at the Cobb Galleria Center that attracted a lot of college coaches to evaluate the wide array of talent. There will be plenty of content over the next several days throughout our nationwide network of scouts. As our Grit Region regional scout I’ll be focusing primarily on those prospects in the midwest who caught my eye down south. Let’s start with some new names who made their presence known in Atlanta.
Nick Andreano (Minooka H.S. 2023/Hoops 4 Health 17u): Andreano is a bigger guard at 6’4″ who had a great weekend shooting the basketball at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta. Anytime you combine that size on the wing with his level of shooting ability you get an intriguing prospect. Played well alongside a talented backcourt for Hoops 4 Health.
Eric Hackett Eric Hackett 6'2" | SG Tates Creek | 2023 State KY (Takes Creek H.S. 2023/Griffin Elite – Bordas 17u): This crafty guard has quietly put together a great spring and summer on our Prep Hoops Circuit. The 6’1″ guard can create his own shot off of the dribble, is a tough finisher at the end of his drives, and can play either spot in the backcourt. Definitely a name to know down in the Bluegrass State.
Maury Lewis Maury Lewis 6'2" | SG Indiana Math & Science Academy | 2023 IN (Indiana Math & Science Academy 2023/Circle City Shooters 17u): This physical guard was a consistent top performer at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta with multiple 20+ point scoring performances including putting up 21 in a big win over Griffin Elite – Bordas. Scores it very well around the basket as a 6’2″ guard. Tough driver.
Steven Rogers Steven Rogers 6'7" | C Decatur Central | 2023 State IN (Decatur Central H.S. 2023/Indiana Red Storm 17u): A 6’7″ forward with a lot of potential, Rogers put up 15.5 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Indiana Red Storm down in Atlanta over the weekend. He showcases good hands around the basket, a knack for cleaning the glass on both ends of the floor, and the necessary length to protect the rim defensively. Rogers’ best basketball is still ahead of him.
Jasmin Suvalija (Indiana Math & Science Academy 2023/INB Platinum Elite 17u): It came in a loss, but I was impressed with Suvalija on Saturday afternoon scoring 19 points in a tough one-point loss to the Colorado Roughriders. Suvalija showed off a smooth jump shot and the ability to get to the paint off of the dribble as well. Should have a big senior season at Indiana Math & Science Academy.
Henri Young Henri Young 6'7" | PF Centennial | 2023 State OH (Centennial H.S. 2023/Mid-Ohio Pumas – Price 17u): Young impressed with his skill level as a 6’6″ wing/forward with plus length. He showed the ability to face up and score from the perimeter, finished at the rim, and defended multiple positions. I really like the upside to his game. Definitely one to follow coming out of central Ohio and the rest of this summer with the Mid-Ohio Pumas.
