One of the featured games had two of the top independent programs in the region going head to head, and many more collegiate prospects throughout the day. Here’s the first run down of Sunday Standouts.
Zach Hays Zach Hays 6'3" | SF Westmoore | 2023 State OK , 6’3 Wing/Forward, Oklahoma Rogue
One of the more versatile scorers in the Class of 2023, Hays is automatic around the rim with outstanding feel around the rim. More than just a post player, he also racked up in the points in a closely contested battle against OZ Elite. The Westmoore Jaguar is a smart mover without the ball, and has a strong and powerful finishing ability when attacking off the bounce. He uses his strong frame to absorb contact and create enough space to still finish even when going against high level athletes. Many of his 16 points against OZ Elite came in the second half as he helped his team overcome a halftime deficit and then pull away for the victory.
Garrett Robertson Garrett Robertson 5'10" | PG Hutchinson | 2023 State KS , 5’10 Guard, OZ Elite 2023
The Kansas team gets a lot of pub for the athletic way they attack the rim, on both of the ends of the court. In the first half when they were rolling, it was big time three pointers from Robertson that really elevated their team. The Class of 2023 guard must always be accounted for thanks to his accurate shooting from deep.
Wade Meyer Wade Meyer 6'2" | SG Hutchinson | 2023 State KS , 6’2 Guard, PGU Hoops 2023
Another top shooter from Kansas, Meyer made a splash when he closed out a closely contested game with a go ahead three pointer with about a minute left in the action. He was then part of tough team defense for his side to secure the victory. The senior guard had 14 points in that game, including 10 in the second half.
Kye Keys, 6’3 Guard, 3T Training 2023
In a Sunday afternoon blowout victory the Elk City guard made a habit of turning defense into instant offense for the small town based squad. He’s a smart defender, with good athleticism, which allows him to create havoc for turnovers and finish when he gets to the rim. The Class of 2023 prospect even hit a corner three in the one game viewed, showing the depth to his game.
Skyler Kimberlin, 6’8 Forward, 3T Training 2023
An unsigned senior from Mount View Gotebo, Kimberlin was first watched in the Class B State tournament. He has obvious next level potential thanks to his size, but it’s more than just being a big body out there. The lanky post player has a good sense of passing and spacing when operating in the post. Kimberlin also plays with a good motor but will need to continue to add strength to his thin frame be more effective at the next level.
