Dom Aekins All Ohio Red (Walnut Ridge)
Aekins brought up-tempo basketball for AOR with loads of speed both in transition and in the half court. Good arsenal of moves including spin move. Sometimes holds the ball a little longer than one would hope, but still can create opportunities once the ball is in his hands. Certainly undersized at 5’9 but could climb college ladders as he adds some size.
Xander Wedlow Xander Wedlow 6'9" | PF University Prep | 2024 State MI All Ohio Red (University Prep)
Wedlow might have been the one true post on display during the day as he stood a whopping 6’9. Great feel around the rim utilizing his frame and footwork when he possessed the ball in the post. Uses his entire body to overpower defenders. Gets college’s attention with his body and frame. As he adds to it and shows the same skillset against other guys 6’9 or taller, I could see D1’s showing interest in him entering junior year.
Mason Shrout Mason Shrout 6'4" | SF Preble Shawnee | 2024 State OH All Ohio Red (Preble Shawnee)
Shrout did a great job of creating space with his dribble and filled up the scoring column for AOR against a MAC Basketball team that brought physical defenders on the floor to counter him. Shrout went and got his points on the bounce and with his midrange shooting. Led this group down the stretch scoring crucial baskets when AOR needed it.
Jackson Washington All Ohio Red (Chaminade-Julienne)
Washington has built a name for himself as one of the better shooters in the area and can get it going in a hurry if he isn’t accounted for. The lefty got plenty of shots up last weekend and connected enough to keep AOR in their matchup. What’s even more impressive was Washington’s bounce as he showed us some more potential as a finisher above the rim vs only beyond the arc. Washington’s play has earned him a scholarship offer from University of Akron.
Jayson Levis Jayson Levis 6'1" | CG Lutheran West | 2024 State OH MAC Basketball (Berea-Midpark)
I could have listed a couple different guys from MAC Basketball but chose Levis because of the motor and passion he played with. Great defensive player and moved so well side-to-side guarding D1 caliber players on AOR. Levis created opportunities for himself with his slashing and was getting into the paint easier than I’ve seen others against an EYBL team. His persistence and grit is admirable and worth college coaches tuning in.
