The Moreau Catholic Shootout Classic for NorCal Players and their high school teams playing together for maybe the last time, because of the start of live periods in July. There were 12 JV teams, and 21 Varsity teams from all over the East Bay of NorCal. Our focus is on the Varsity, though we did see a few JV games. Here’s our standouts from Friday.
LeBrie Goudy-Lee LeBrie Goudy-Lee 6'3" | SF Moreau Catholic | 2023 State CA-N 6’4 2023 W/F of Moreau Catholic HS.
He’s set for a breakout season if he plays the way he did at this event. The strong athletic guard has improved his game. We heard him talking on defense in a good way on the court, he was good defending in the post. His power, and bounce going up off two for points in the paint was noticeable. His rebounding, and handling in open court puts pressure on the defense to stop him from going all the way.
Jake Andius 5’11 2023 SG, CG of Northgate HS
It was our first look at the stocky guard who can play both guard positions. He’s an alert passer, with good vision, always looking to push, pass, and advance the ball in transition. His handles, and patience were good up top, as he showed an ability to set the team in half-court, while looking to take advantage of any opening. He’s a solid shooter off the dribble, he knocked down 3’s in transition.
Miles Burrows Miles Burrows 6'3" | SF Bishop O'Dowd | 2023 State CA-N 6’3 2023 W/F of Bishop O’Dowd HS
Burrows is bulky and has the strength, and physicality to handle the rough play inside at this level. He was active in the post on both ends, making body contact before going after the rebounds, and defending bigs in the paint. His handles, and decision making were good after rebounding, he attacked the baseline aggressive for finishes in the paint. He spotted up at the top to drop a few 3’s.
Zion Moore 6’3 2024 G/F of Alameda HS
Moore’s a long arm prospect, still growing. He’ll play multiple positions on this team. He’s used a lot in pick and role situations. He can finish in the paint. He passes well from the high post, and can hit the free throw jumper. He’s a versatile player who can handle in the open court, get his own shot working from the perimeter, and along the baseline.
Anujan Tenathur 6’4 2023 W/F of Saint Francis HS, Mountain View.
He was on the JV last season and looks to be an instant contributor that will generate some points for this team. He has a good shot from mid-range out to the 3pt line. He does a good job filling lanes in transition. He’s long and wiry with a good touch in the paint. A lot of his scoring came as a result of moving and cutting, getting himself to good spots for his shot. He makes the shots he takes.
Bryan Edwards 6’0 2023 PG of Berkeley HS
He’s a tough minded guard with superb handles, and quickness getting into the paint, and playing through contact for finishes over bigger players. He’s a good passer, sees the court well. He has quick hands to disrupt, and get layups off steals. He has speed, and good defensive footwork to guard other speedy ball handlers end to end.
Armand Kalns 6’6 2023 W/F of Valley Christian HS. San Jose
He was active on both ends of the court. He plays with good energy and gets up and down the the court in a good way. He has size, and length with good activity in the paint helping this team in rebounding and defending. He did okay finishing around the rim generating points on put back. He did step out and hit a 3ptr. We’ll see more of him.
