I was at the event throughout the weekend and focused on the 15U Division. Here’s a look at some of the top bigs/posts I saw.
1. Michael Brown Michael Brown 6'4" | SF San Marcos | 2026 CA-S – San Marcos 2026/Coastal Elite 2025
Brown is a big with a nice perimeter game. Sometimes he goes to the jumper a little too much but he can be effective there. He can stretch the floor with his shooting, drawing out opposing bigs and he does a good job spotting up for three in the corners. When he does establish himself in the post, he is effective as well. He’s strong and can finish at the rim through traffic. Good interior defender challenging drives/shots.
2. Ray Wiggins – Gregori 2024/No Fear Elite 2025
Wiggins is a versatile big with some guard like skills. He can handle the ball and he can shoot from the perimeter. Takes advantage against slower post players. Does a good job facing up in the high post and attacking off the dribble or hitting the pull-up jumper. Good defender in the paint challenging shots and timing his blocks well. Positions himself well for rebounds. Able to draw fouls in the paint and get to the free-throw line. He showed off some nice passing in the halfcourt too.
3. Bennett Smith – St Hedwig 2026/LA Elite 15U Select
Smith is another mobile and versatile big. He stretches the floor with consistent three-point shooting and he can make a move off the dribble from the high post. He moves without the ball too making strong baseline cuts and finishing at the rim. He is a good offensive rebounder and he can draw fouls while going up for put-backs. Defensively, he blocks shots in the paint and does well cutting off baseline drives.
4. Dominque Bentho – Westside Neighborhood Middle School 2026/LA Elite 15U Premier
Bentho is in the mold of a traditional post player. He has good footwork in the post for a young player who hasn’t even played in high school yet. Able to hit defenders with a nice little up and under move and finish at the rim. He’s big and strong and can use his strength well in the paint. Able to pass out of the post when swarmed by the defense. His paint game would really benefit from developing little up fakes to get the defender off balance. Good rim protection defensively.
