Boone put on an absolute show in the 17u championship game. I saw him excel right from the start. He began the game with some strong moves down low; backing down defenders and making his inside finishes look easy. But later on, he really got hot from beyond the arc. He hit three 3-pointers in a row at one point, and truly stole the show. On defense, he forced difficult shots in the paint, and was an active contributor on the glass. I’m excited to see how his game progresses ahead of his senior season.
Here’s a guy who showed off tons of bounce and explosiveness this weekend. He opened the weekend with a tremendous 38-point performance against Full Package Saturday. He displayed so much confidence attacking the basket and finished in a variety of ways that game. His ability to finish with both hands and break past defenders was something I didn’t notice beforehand. On Sunday, Sulaiman put on another stellar performance against Indiana’s Hardwood Elite. He converted several athletic finishes at the rim, but also extended his range with a couple long-range triples. Sulaiman transferred from Marist to Oak Lawn this summer for his senior season.
Highlights
Aniceto was the lead guard on the 16u championship squad this weekend. His craftiness and decision making are aspects of his game that didn’t stand out to me before this weekend. He hit difficult shots all over the floor, and got his teammates involved throughout the game. It seems like he might have a clutch gene in him. He helped lead comebacks in both games I watched this weekend, and hit two free throws in the last second to help Basketball Paradise take down Team Rose.
SBC has been in the shadows of lots of talented players lately. But he took control of a Team Ten Jabari Parker team Saturday against Team Tru. There was so much that impressed me with his game. He hit shots in the corner and showed confidence attacking the basket. He also proved to be a terrific facilitator with many assists in that game. The biggest takeaway for me is that his size for a guard does not concern me anymore. He showed great hustle on both ends and can definitely compete with the best talent in Illinois.
