I had boots on the ground at NY2LA Best of the South, Prep Hoops Live Atlanta, and UAA/UA Rise Session III. Let’s take a look at some of the top individual performances from across the three events.
Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023/EG10 17u): The 6’2″ left-handed guard was getting buckets as he typically does on Friday afternoon at Prep Hoops Live Atlanta. Carson poured in 26 points, but EG10 came up just a little bit short on the scoreboard.
Drew Cook Drew Cook 6'0" | SG Northview | 2023 State IN (Northview H.S. 2023/Kyle Guy Elite White 17u): Cook led a very balanced scoring attack with 14 points in an easy victory on Friday at Best of the South. The 6’0″ guard contributes to winning with IQ plays and excellent shot-making skills off of the dribble.
Evan Haywood (Brebeuf Jesuit 2024/Progeny Blue 16u): Admittedly I haven’t seen this 6’3″ guard play a ton, but Friday was the best I’ve ever seen Haywood play. He has always had good catch-and-shoot ability, but he also displayed more game off of the dribble than I remembered. Like his size and physicality on the wing. Scored 30 points in a big win for Progeny Blue 16u at Best of the South.
Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN (Greenfield-Central H.S. 2023/Kyle Guy Elite Black 17u): In typical fashion, Moles was the best offensive player on the floor in a hard fought win over No Guts No Glory 17u on Friday afternoon at Best of the South. He scored a team high 15 points alongside a balanced effort to secure the win. His shot-making is as good as anybody’s in Indiana’s class of 2023.
Papi Rivera Papi Rivera 6'1" | PG North Central | 2025 State IN (North Central H.S. 2025/D1 Indiana-Bonds 15u): “Papi” scored 20 points in a win for D1 Indiana-Bonds on Friday evening in the UA Rise Session III. He takes and makes some really tough shots, is a very fluid athlete, and can finish at a high level around the rim. Really impressive rising sophomore who should have a breakout season.
Jerimya Sims (Gary 21st Century 2024/94 Feet Elite 16u): Scoring 25 points in a massive comeback effort will certainly land you on a top performers list. That is what Sims did as he brought 94 Feet Elite back from a double digit deficit with just eight minutes to play to secure an overtime victory.
Tucker Tornatta (Evansville Memorial H.S. 2024/Kyle Guy Elite White 16u): I watched a little bit of Tornatta’s first game, but I admittedly didn’t see the game we are about to discuss. However, when Kyle Guy himself texts you that the 6’6″ forward scored 29 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in their evening game you listen and write about it. The lefty big man is super skilled offensively.
Devon Woods Devon Woods 5'10" | PG Pike | 2023 State IN (Pike H.S. 2023/EG10 17u): All college coaches have to make a decision on what they think about small guards, but one things has become undebatable and that is the 5’10” Woods has the skill to help a lot of people at a lot of different levels in college. He is among the shiftiest guards in the state, has a smooth jump shot, and is an excellent finisher against size. Also a very good on-ball defender. He needs at least some NAIA offers in July. DII’s and even low-majors should evaluate.
