The two-day event, with players from the classes of 2023 through 2026, had plenty of well-known names to Southern California basketball followers and some players looking to put their names on that radar. In this piece we take a look at some of the top prospects we saw.
Dillan Shaw, 2025, Heritage Christian – Shaw is an intriguing rising sophomore due to his versatile offensive skill-set to go along with his wiry frame and fluid athleticism. Shaw is a consistent three-point shooter off the catch and is very effective in pick-and-pop action when facing up for a three or taking a straight-line drive opportunity to the rim. His best defensive trait at this point in his development is his ability to rebound the defensive glass and quickly start a fast break the other way with an outlet pass or leading it himself with the dribble.
Eric Freeny Eric Freeny 6'5" | SG Corona Centennial | 2024 State #73 Nation CA-S , 2024, Corona Centennial – Freeny has that do-it-all game where he has his hands in every aspect of the game. The 6-foot-4 wing/guard is a physical downhill driver and finisher, creates shots for himself or teammates off the dribble drive and is a multi-positional defender due to his physicality and toughness. The rising junior has been a role player the last two seasons at powerhouse Corona Centennial but him being in that role has allowed him to develop into a versatile prospect. Freeny has a chance to be a breakout player this season as his role is expected to expand.
Gavin Ripp Gavin Ripp 6'8" | PF Archbishop Mitty | 2024 State CA-N , 2024, Archbishop Mitty – Ripp’s versatility on the offensive end is what stood out the most in this event. At 6-feet-7 the rising junior has touch out to the three point line off the catch and off the bounce, has the ball skills and athleticism to put it on the floor and get to the rim, and also showed his ability to slash off the ball and finish through contact in the painted area. When not scoring, Ripp is contributing with his passing, off-ball movement and willingness to crash the offensive boards.
Isaac Williamson, 2025, Riverside Poly – Williamson was one of the better pure scorers and shooters in this event. The 6-foot guard is a lethal three-point shooter who has deep range and the ability to knock down shots from multiple spots on the floor. The rising sophomore uses screens to his advantage to create space from his defender for an open look. In addition to his off-ball movement, Williamson can come off of a ball screen and hit jumpers off the dribble.
Jack Turner Jack Turner 6'3" | SG St. John Bosco | 2024 State #253 Nation CA-S , 2024, St. John Bosco – Turner is a three level scorer and shot creator whose feel off the bounce has improved drastically over the last few months. The 6-foot-3 combo guard might not have “elite” speed or athleticism, but his ability to stop on a dime, stay on-balance, and create space for step-back jumpers allows him to be an effective scorer. Turner has improved his ability to get by defenders and to the rim where he can score craftily over bigger defenders.
