Continue ReadingEssex County has long been one of the hottest spots for elite basketball talent in the Garden State. We have featured several of the top shelf players over the recent weeks, but now we turn our focus on some of the under-the-radar players who have impressed the last year and are in a spot to have a major senior year.
Jalen Robinson Jalen Robinson 5'10" | PG Columbia | 2023 State NJ | 5’10” | G | Columbia
He’ll be one of the top senior returnees in Essex County. He’s got range that extends beyond the ark but is also a smooth operator with solid dribbling skills to get to the rim. He was a leader as a junior going for 20+ several times, including against Central(24), East Side(22) and Immaculate Conception(20). Could get to 1,000 pts in his senior year.
Sean Agard | 6’0” | G | Irvington
Irvington had some struggles as a team last year but individually Agard had a hell of a season. An above average ball handler with a solid first step and range that extends beyond the arc. He’s got a soft touch and quick release on his shot. Over 20 often. 31 vs Newark Tech and 24 vs Immaculate Conception. He’s driving the bus for Irvington this winter and will likely draw some attention from colleges because of his scoring ability.
Quatrell Wilson Quatrell Wilson 6'5" | SF Newark East Side | 2023 State NJ | 6’6” | F | Newark East Side
A spring-in-his-step athlete, Wilson saw a big role for a very young East Side team last year. Good dribbling skills and quick feet. A tough defender who is in line for a big senior year as one of the top forwards in Essex County. He poured in 22 vs West Essex, 15&12 vs Irvington and 16 vs University as a junior. He’s the type of kid who could well play himself into a D2 scholarship as a senior. He played AAU for Sandy Pyonin’s Roadrunners.
Tavian Pullock Tavian Pullock 6'5" | SF Montclair Immaculate | 2023 State NJ | 6’5” | F | Immaculate Conception
Pullock has been an on the rise player who can finish at the rim and get there with his solid ball handling skills. He’s got the ability to connect in the mid range as well and can also move it on defense. He had a great junior year, including 22 vs Hackensack, Newark Central and Gill St Bernards. He also chipped in 28 vs MKA,21 vs Irvington and 20 vs Seton Hall Prep. Should push for first team all county honors as a senior.
Darrius Phillips Darrius Phillips 6'7" | PF Seton Hall Prep | 2023 State NJ | 6’7” | F | Seton Hall Prep
Phillips was a supporting player who was able to step up in spots when called upon. He’s a rugged defender who can run the floor and move the ball as a skilled passer. His top game as a junior was the Essex County Final win. Only hit 2 points, but did the little things: 7 boards, 5 assists and 3 blocks. He dropped a double-double vs Central and had 9&8 in a nailbiting loss to Bosco in states.
