Continue ReadingThe June high school live periods continued this past weekend with tons of events all over the country, and one of the biggest ones was in the DMV area where DMV Live took place at the famous DeMatha High School in Maryland. The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We take a look at some of the standouts from the three NC teams that were in attendance.
Riley Allenspach Riley Allenspach 6'11" | C Providence Day | 2023 State NC | 6’8” PF | Providence Day 2023
Allenspach was one of the most productive and efficient big men in attendance, as he averaged 22.5 points per game in their four games and improved his stock quite a bit. The 6’8” big is a true inside-out threat as he likes to post and can finish over either shoulder, he can step out and knock down shots from deep on pick-and-pops and on the trail and he can hit the offensive glass and get to the line often as well. His unique skillset makes him a walking mismatch and has programs from all over the country interested in him.
Emanuel Richards Emanuel Richards 6'5" | CG Christ School | 2023 State NC | 6’4” WF | Christ School 2023
Richards is one of a number of relatively unknown 2023 prospects on this Christ School team that went undefeated at session 2, and anyone looking for a physical and skilled wing should take a long look at him. He’s a country strong type of kid who needs to slim down a little in the middle but has exceptional strength in his upper and lower body allowing him to bully smaller wings, he shot the ball well both from deep and in the midrange and he was able to get downhill and finish around the rim too. He brought it on both ends of the floor and impressed a number of coaches with his production and efficiency.
Anthony Robinson Anthony Robinson 6'9" | PF Christ School | 2023 State NC | 6’10” C | Christ School 2023
Robinson is a big man that was very intriguing in my first time watching him, as he has great physical and athletic tools and a lot of room to get better moving forward as well. The 6’10” big moves very well as he runs the floor and can come help side to challenge shots, he is explosive for his size and can catch and finish above the rim and he has good touch around the rim and out to the midrange as well. He’s still putting it all together but as he continues to develop he could be a big time player down the road in college.
Bryson Cokely | 6’5” WG | Christ School 2024
Cokely was one of the more talented wings I saw and projects to play at a very high level in college with his mix of physical tools, athleticism and skill set as a shot maker and shot creator. He has prototypical size on the wing to translate to the high major level, he’s a big time athlete who plays well above the rim and can defend multiple positions and when he gets it going he can score it from all three levels effortlessly. He had his ups and downs throughout the session but he showed that he has a lot of things to him that college coaches will love.
Jakel Powell Jakel Powell 6'5" | SF Raleigh Christian Academy | 2024 NC | 6’5” WG | NC GBB Academy 2023
Powell showed why he’s one of the more highly sought after two guards in the hoop state, as he showed his explosive scoring ability and his ability to knock down shots from deep consistently. He has a good frame and has grown to about 6’5”, he has deep range and a quick release and confidence in his ability to make shots from deep and when he gets it going he rips nets over and over again. He’s improved in his ability to handle the basketball against pressure and create his own shot off the bounce in the half court as well.
Asa White Asa White 6'8" | PF Combine Academy | 2023 State NC | 6’9” PF | NC GBB Academy 2023
White is one of a number of GBB big men that are criminally under recruited, as we’ve seen him develop nicely over the past few years and he impacts the game across the board. He’s a natural athlete who can run the floor and play above the rim, he can step out and make shots on the trail and on the pick-and-pop and he is relentless on the glass and as a rim protector. He brings great energy to his team and if he continues to develop the way he has his best basketball is still ahead of him.
Caden Bell Caden Bell 6'2" | CG NC GBBA | 2024 State NC | 6’1” PG | NC GBB Academy 2024
Bell is a stock riser in the NC 2024 class who may not be the biggest guard but he brings a lot of toughness as well as good athleticism and playmaking ability as well. He touches the paint at will and collapses the defense to make plays, he can go up top and finish above the rim or over taller players when he gets a head of steam and he can score it from all three levels off the bounce. He’s a tough kid and a competitor who brings it on both ends of the floor and sets the tone and the table for his team.
