I watched this squad play at the NHR State Tournament in June and they battled an athletic team from Canada. The night I watched, Brian Zarazua Jr. was the best player on the floor. This Moorhead Spud has an advanced game with all the tools and skills to be a stud high school player and a serious college prospect. Look below for comments from coach Zarazua and information on the Bears Tail players.
Bears Tail Basketball 15U head coach Brian Zarazua Sr. comments on the season
“The season started off a little tough, then once June hit we started to come into our own. July was tough for us but the competition was as well. Going to Prep Hoops LIVE in Atlanta and Kansas City was fun and exciting. We were able to see how we match-up against the rest of the country and although we didn’t win all the games we had our chances. We did a lot of growing as a team, but we also had some bumps in the road this year. We had kids out with COVID and injuries. The players never complained and kept on working.“
“Our season had a learning curve, we had kids playing AAU for the first time. It was so fun watching these kids grow every game and every practice. We have good group, let’s see where we go from here!“

Player comments from coach Zarazua
Brian Zarazua Jr. |6’3 CG| Moorhead – “He had a very good summer leading this team. Brian did a lot for us offensively and on defense, he was a problem for opponents. Zarazua was our motor that’s for sure.”
Andy Koffa Andy Koffa 5'7" | PG Moorhead | 2025 MN |5’7 G| Moorhead – “He was the glue/head of our defense. Koffa was our energy, he is quick, and he was everywhere on the court. Andy was also one of our snipers from outside. Do not let his little frame fool you, he will drive on BIGs and get AND1 finishes.“
DeAngelo Jones |6’0 G| Moorhead – “He is a raw athlete with potential.. DeAngelo grabbed rebounds, steals, and ran the floor well. DeAngelo had to be our most improved, he is growing into his own. His mid-range is tough. Jones can get a shot off anytime he wants inside the arch and by the end of this summer, we had him making threes.“
Jack Huus |6’1 G| Moorhead – “He was our shooter for sure. Jack came up big for us at times when we needed to string a few shots together. Huus was willing to step up and hit those shots when we needed him to.”
Reign Battle |6’0 G| Moorhead – “He was another raw athlete that did well. I would say Battle had a coming-out party this year. He did a lot of good things for us on both sides of the ball.”
Alex Busch Alex Busch 6'1" | SF Fargo Shanley | 2025 ND |6’1 G| Fargo Shanley – “He shot the ball well from the perimeter. At times, Busch had to fill in and play as a post/forward. He played well in the post for being undersized. We could not have asked for anything more from Alex.“
Dax Frank Dax Frank 6'6" | PF Bismarck Legacy | 2025 State ND |6’5 F| Bismarck Legacy – “He is a paint filler and this kid is an athlete. Frank is improving every time he steps on the floor. He is extremely coachable and he runs the floor really well. Dax blocks shots and rebounds with aggressiveness. Frank is another one of our raw players. He is still growing and will be very scary as his game becomes polished.”
