When looking at this list, one impressive trait I noticed was the primary skill set for most of these guys was not their shooting capabilities but rather other skills they excelled at.
Zion Crowe Zion Crowe 6'4" | SG Springfield Shawnee | 2023 State OH (2023) Dayton Elite Black (Shawnee)
Crowe has had one of the best two week stretches I’ve seen so far this year after helping Dayton Elite get to the Platinum championship in Louisville. The 6-foot-4 wing is one of the purest scorers I have seen so far this year and impressed with his versatility scoring the ball. Crowe’s athleticism is tough to defend against as he can get going in a hurry.
Austin Cripe Austin Cripe 6'3" | SG West Noble | 2023 State IN (2023) 5 Star (West Noble)
Cripe is a great combo guard for 5 Star and showed great finishing around the rim against Dayton Elite. Cripe has good size at 6-foot-3 and awareness around the rim. Finished with either hands and positioned his body between defenders and the rim. Patient with the ball and a good decision maker.
Sam Whitmer Sam Whitmer 6'3" | SF Elder | 2023 State OH (2023) Shining Star s-Price (Elder)
Whitmer showed a different style than what I saw 1 week previously while playing with Elder. We know Whitmer is a gritty defender coming from a defensive minded program like Elder. With Shining Star s, Whitmer showed more a role offensively involving ball movement and playmaking. Good handle and not phased too much by pressure defense. Whitmer likely needs to be the offensive playmaker for the Panthers after they graduated their two scoring guards from this past season.
Jack Kronauge (2023) Shining Star s-Price (Lakota East)
Kronauge is a name I’m familiar with, but had not seen much this Spring/Summer. The 6-foot-2 guard impressed yet again with his shooting touch and mechanics. Clean follow through and flow. I was impressed specifically with Kronauge’s shot creation as he was able to make some tough shots off dribble and in pull-up situations.
Hayden Nigro (2024) Team Clutch (Louisville)
After hearing about Team Clutch’s success this Grassroots season, I made them a priority to see in Louisville. One of their top players is Hayden Nigro. The 6-foot-4 southpaw has a physical frame and utilized his size and physicality against smaller defenders. He didn’t have a specific trait that struggled with and frankly did everything pretty well. The biggest issue I am seeing potentially is his shooting as Nigro seemed to default to dribble drive vs midrange/perimeter shots.
