Continue ReadingThe grind region all summer long was filled with some of the best talent in the world. After covering them all weekend, here is my top 5 prospects that stood out to me and has full capability in becoming something bigger. How did they make the list? From their work ethic, being coachable, how efficient they play, how well they work with their teammates, you name it they have it! Each player brings something special to the list, check out who made the cut and why!
Jaxson Woods (#5 Team Ford)- One of the smoothest players on the circuit when it comes to scoring. His motion getting into his shot, his footwork on his jumper, his release, even when he misses you still think its going in because of how smooth it is. His ability to create space off the bounce using his footwork instead of athleticism is a joy to watch. Jaxson will catch your attention right away if you are looking for the under the radar kids simply because he doesn’t play flashy, he wants to get the job done.
Diego Saldana (I AM 3 Prospects 2023)- Diego, making a transition from being a undersized post player in the past years to being a guard for this competitive I am 3 team, he made all the necessary strides to do so. Handling the ball amongst the best pressure, knocking It down from 3 with extreme confidence and consistency, he will thrive no matter where he goes simply because he is able to adapt, adjust and develop. He is a solid defender but there’s room to become a better on ball defender, if he gets that, watch out.
Avery Thomas (#32 Magnolia Elite 2024)- One of my favorite players from the weekend, with his 6’4″ frame he showed me everything there was to show me. Pushed it from coast to coast off a rebound to show he had handles and could dribble through traffic. Has a really nice jumper with range on it shooting it behind the NBA 3pt line as if it was the high school line. When smaller guards or wings defended him, he went to the post and exploited the mismatch from the wing and the block. His motor might be one of the best we have seen. Sprinting from rim to rim and rebounding the ball at a high clip, its hard to keep him away from the action. All he has to do is continue to work on his all around game, get stronger and he is a star in the making.
Cameron Hudson Cameron Hudson 6'7" | SF Memphis Central | 2024 State TN (#30 901 Ball Stars 2024)- When you think of Cameron you have to think of rim protector inside the paint. While his team did the bulk of the scoring, he made sure to let everyone know the paint was his and he protected it. While most people block shots and foul at the same time, Cameron was different and blocked your shot without fouling. Not only does he block your shot at the rim but he blocks it, secures the ball then starts the fast break for his 901 Ball stars team. Hudson is athletic and you dont have to watch long to see that, if he doesn’t use it on the offensive end dunking on people he will for sure use it on the defensive end.
Jyrin Sowell Jyrin Sowell 6'3" | SG Captain Shreve | 2024 State LA (#15 OWE 2024)- Sowell is one of the most well rounded players In the class of 2024 for this group. We watched him all weekend and in just a matter of minutes he gave us an alley oop dunk, post up on the block, Brought the ball up to run a play and rebounded 3 times in the same possessions. We love how physical Jyrin play and how well rounded he is to go with his game. With a strong physique, if you can’t physically match up with him he will sense that and take advantage of that all game long. OWE runs a lot of offense through Jyrin and they trust him to make the right decision when he has the ball in his hands, now I see why. Sowell will be playing at a high level if he shows he can make high level reads off ball screens and showcases his off ball movements.
