is officially a Michigan State Spartan! The 5-star forward had just cut his list of 30+ scholarship offers down to a Top 10 on Monday. However, the 6’11” prospect decided to go ahead and call it on Saturday afternoon. Booker made his announcement via ESPN’s Paul Biancardi’s Instagram Live feed at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
For Michigan State fans, the commitment came with a sigh of relief. Coach Tom Izzo and his staff fully invested in landing Booker and it paid off. After hosting the Top 5 recruit for his official visit over the weekend of April 15th the Spartans were the leader’s in the clubhouse. However, blue blood programs like Duke and Kansas ended up offering and Kentucky was following him closely as well. In the end, the relationships that were cultivated with Izzo and company were enough to land their prized recruit.
Booker chose Michigan State over a list of nine other schools including Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Auburn, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ohio State, and Gonzaga. The 6’11” forward is now technically ranked #1 overall by Rivals with the reclassification of G.G. Jackson. He is also ranked #3 in the class by 247Sports and #6 by On3.
Big time two-way prospect with all the potential you could want. He isn’t yet very physical around the basket, but his skill level is what makes him a Top 5 prospect in the class and has rumblings of being a potential #1 NBA Draft pick. Handles the ball well for his size. Makes 3’s at a high enough clip. Legit 6’11” with + length. Runs the floor very well and can start the break off a rebound. Wants to play on the perimeter. Projects as a floor-stretching 5-man at the college level. Not a back to the basket guy yet. Protects the rim at a high level. Booker has all the makings of the “modern” big man at the next level.
At the end of the day, Michigan State went all in onand the bet paid off. It is shaping up to be a VERY good 2023 recruiting class in East Lansing.
