At this point, 7 members of the class hold at least one D1 offer and there are at least twice that many with the potential to earn D1 offers in the class before they get to graduation down the line. Here’s a look at the top shooting guards and combo guards in the class. This does not include players ranked in the top ten.
Sawyer Thompson Sawyer Thompson 6'2" | CG Pineville | 2025 State KY , Pineville – Thompson was the leading scorer amongst 2025s in Kentucky last season and has shown that he can be a facilitator when he’s got more talent around him and doesn’t have to score so much for his team to compete. While he’ll ultimately be a point guard in college, Sawyer can play off the ball as well and is effective as a secondary ball handler who gets downhill and gets paint touches.
Andersen Green Andersen Green 6'3" | SG Lexington Christian | 2025 State KY , Lexington Christian – Andersen is a good shooter who is highly skilled and capable of posting up smaller guards or driving and finishing against wings and forwards. Green knows how to use his body to create contact and finish through it. More likely to play off the ball than on it, Andersen is more comfortable as an off guard who catches and drives.
Cooper Davenport Cooper Davenport 5'11" | CG Henderson County | 2025 State KY , Henderson County – More of a pure shooter than the rest on this list, Cooper had a big season for Henderson last year and followed that with a good AAU season for the Nashville Stars before an injury kept him from playing in July. Davenport and Gerard Thomas Gerard Thomas 6'2" | PG Henderson County | 2023 State KY should be expected to be the main scorers for a Colonel team that has designs on knocking off Lyon County and getting to Rupp Arena.
Aveion Chenault Aveion Chenault 6'3" | SG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY , Douglass – A versatile athlete off the court (Chenault is a three sport star), Aveion is also a versatile player on the court as he can score in waves on offense while also being a lockdown defender on the other end. Part of a young and talented core for Douglass, Chenault and Melo Boone are a talented backcourt that is going to turn a lot of heads in Lexington this season.
Greg Brooks Greg Brooks 6'0" | SG Cordia | 2025 MD , Cordia – Greg is a unique situation because he attends Cordia but lives in New York and played AAU with a team out of Boston (I think) and his dad DM’d to say that Brooks has earned his first D1 offer already. At Cordia, Greg is a certified bucket getter and one of the best scorers in the mountains. But Brooks is also tough and athletic enough that you could drop him on the roster of any team in Kentucky and he would be an impact player.
