Continue ReadingThe 2025 class still has a very long way to go but the early returns look like this class is a powerhouse. At this point, 7 members of the class hold at least one D1 offer and there are at least twice that many with the potential to earn D1 offers in the class before they get to graduation down the line. Here’s a look at the top point guards in the class. This does not include players ranked in the top ten.
Maddox Huff Maddox Huff 6'3" | PG Harlan County | 2025 State KY , Harlan County – Maddox is a shifty and talented scorer who excels at reading the pick and roll and is a big time shooter with deep range. He should expect to be the go-to scorer for Harlan County from now on after Trent Noah Trent Noah 6'7" | SF Harlan County | 2024 State #139 Nation KY transferred to North Laurel this summer. Huff is the type of player who can get hot in a hurry and stay hot. He’s a score first point most of the time but has shown he can also run an offense.
Armelo Boone Armelo Boone 6'3" | SG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY , Douglass – Boone is one of the best athletes in the 25 class and uses his athleticism to attack the rim relentlessly. Melo has shown he has the physical tools to lock down defensively when he wants to. His jumper is his current weakness and Boone has time to work on that over the coming years. Melo is one to track as a potential top 10 player in the class, long term.
Cayden Reed Cayden Reed 5'9" | PG Mason County | 2025 State KY , Bracken County – Possessing one of the highest basketball IQs in the state, Cayden is the point guard that other kids want to play with because he’s a willing passer who gets the ball to his teammates in position to score. Reed is also a capable shot maker and will get his points without forcing the issue on offense. He’s also a pesky defender. Cayden is going to be one of the best to ever play at Bracken when he’s done.
Josiah Lawson Josiah Lawson 6'0" | PG Trinity | 2025 State KY , Western – Another high IQ floor general, JoJo has a smooth game and never forces the issue on the offensive end. Used to playing with a lot of talent around him and he knows how to set teammates up for open looks. Likely to be a starter for Western this season, Lawson is very shifty and able to get paint touches where he’s an above average finisher in addition to being a good shooter from range.
Eli Finley Eli Finley 6'2" | PG Calloway County | 2025 State KY , Calloway County – Another super talented prospect Finley may be the best young guard in Western Kentucky. Eli is able to score at a high level from every level but has proven he’s a willing passer when he’s got other scorers around him. Eli reminds me of a smaller version of Bellarmine commit and fellow first region guard Grant Whitaker Grant Whitaker 6'3" | PG Murray | 2023 State KY . Both have “smooth” games and know how to change speeds with the ball.
