If you are looking to take a shortcut to finding the top talent in Williamson County, then scour the rosters of two local AAU programs: Tennessee Tigers , STARS-Nashville.
Mainstays
Daniel Cochran Daniel Cochran 6'7" | SF Brentwood | 2024 State TN – Brentwood
“He is 6-foot-7,” said AAU Coach Jeff Laidig. “Really a wing. Daniel is probably the most physically gifted person on our team. He can literally guard 1-5. I think he shot the ball 46% from three-point this spring. We run a lot of plays through him because he is such a good decision-maker.”
Tyler Tanner Tyler Tanner 6'1" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2024 State #133 Nation TN – Brentwood Academy
Tyler Tanner Tyler Tanner 6'1" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2024 State #133 Nation TN played pretty well in the TSSAA State Tournament, and nobody in the private school division displayed more, crushing postgame frustration than Tyler. He wanted to win it for the Brentwood Academy seniors, like Tyler McNair. The skills that Tyler did and does bring to his high school program are poise, confidence, creative flair, and handles. Despite his diminutive size, Tyler was unabashed clattering into bodies under the tin, frequently creating contact himself to draw fouls. He will have an enormous scoring burden this upcoming basketball season and the coaching change from Matt Hoppe to Andy Blackston makes it imperative that he infuses the program with some sense of stability.
Coach Blackston comes to Brentwood Academy from Huntsville, Alabama private school power Madison Academy, where he won multiple state championships. Back in late April, Brentwood Academy Athletic Director Cody White said, “Andy’s accomplishments as a coach are exemplary. We are honored to add the leadership and experience of this highly admired man to our Brentwood Academy coaching staff and boys’ basketball team.”
Sam Medalie Sam Medalie 6'3" | PG Atlantic Collegiate Academy | 2024 State SC – Franklin
Sam found a new AAU program, and with it, a new opportunity to establish his name, his basketball brand. Medalie is shorter than his older brother Jack, and thereby projects as a mote classic guard to Jack’s kind of point forward potential. Sam will be best served as a point guard simply because 6-foot-1 shooting guards are less attractive. Thankfully, point guards that can shoot at an elite level, as Sam can, are more coveted than ever before. He is able to dribble fine, but it takes more to be a college point guard. He must incorporate some breakdown moves.
Jaden Clark Jaden Clark 6'5" | SG Nolensville | 2024 State TN – Nolensville
Running with the Tennessee Tigers AAU outfit. Clark is an angular shooting guard with the ability to score in a variety of ways. His outside shooting is solid, but he does not settle at all. Unlike most young shooters, Clark is eager to attack via the dribble when closed out effectively. It helps make him much more difficult to guard and harder to predict.
Grayson Collins Grayson Collins 5'11" | PG Battle Ground Academy | 2024 State TN – Brentwood
Grayson earned his ranking way back in December. Brentwood High was replacing an exceptional senior class, and honestly looked like a team without leaders at that point. Grayson took command of the offense for a game or two, and really asserted himself with grit, skills, toughness.
Lucas Pring Lucas Pring 6'6" | SF Nolensville | 2024 State TN – Nolensville
Back with the Tennessee Tigers this summer. High-academic.
Jett Montgomery Jett Montgomery 6'1" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN – Independence
The 5-foot-10 guard runs with STARS Basketball-UA Rise 16u, coached by Belmont University graduate Jeff Laidig.
Jett’s AAU season really vaulted him to new heights, so far. College coaches are falling in love with the elite skills and desperation to score embedded in Montgomery’s game. For his youth, Montgomery continues to show an uncanny basketball maturity.
“Jett has always been a scorer naturally,” said Coach Laidig. “He is a scorer and a shooter. The thing that he has developed this spring, is he has really, really worked on his body. I don’t know if you will meet a kid that works harder than Jett.”
