The event was held over a four day period with some of the top teams and talent in the Southern California area participating. I was able to attend the event the final day, Tuesday June 14 and here’s a look at some of the top talent I saw.
1. Kory Blunt Kory Blunt 6'3" | CG Birmingham | 2023 State CA-S – Birmingham 2023
Blunt is a big wing who can do a little bit of everything. He can handle the ball well, he pushes the ball in transition and he can go coast to coast where he finishes strong at the rim. He can put the ball on the floor in the halfcourt and get to the rim. He can also shoot off the dribble and he’s consistent in the midrange. A good passer coming off screens. Good rebounder who knows how to get position and box out well.
2. Isaiah Brewington Isaiah Brewington 6'6" | PF Campbell Hall | 2023 State CA-S – Campbell Hall 2023
Brewington is a player I’ve watched since he was a freshaman. He always had good post instincts and skill and now as a senior it looks like he’s putting it all together. He looks slimmed down a bit from in the past and he’s moving very well on the court. He gets good post position, seals off his defender and can finish at the rim much better. He’s always been a good rebounder, especially on the offensive glass, boxing out and getting put-backs/second shot opportunities.
3. Troy Jenkins – Mater Dei 2024
Jenkins stood out as a good wing scorer. He’s a shooting guard that can handle the ball and dribble up court to set up the offense. Off the dribble, he can either can past his defender and to the rim or he can pull-up and shoot the midrange. He’s able to post up smaller defenders and score near the rim. He can play off the ball as well. He sprints out ahead in transition and finishes on the break. He’s also a good catch and shoot player from three-point range coming off screens.
4. Jacob LaCount – King/Drew 2023
LaCount stood out as a solid point guard. He’s got a pass first mentality, he did a good job running the offense in the halfcourt and keeping the ball moving. He pushes the pace well in transition too. While he’s looking to make the pass, he can score too. He can put the ball on the floor and hit little floaters in the lane. Good rebounder for a smaller guard. He stood out defensively too being able to get in the passing lanes and cause turnovers.
